Hye all, I'd like to have some advice about my party. I've never tried to change anything since the beginning, and I'm willing to start leveling up, so I'm looking toward a final party team. Actually I have :

Adell (fist)
Rozalin (gun)
Yukimaru (kunoichi with sword)
Etna (axe)
Tink
Healer (bow)
Fighter (sword)
Red skull (staff)
Green mage (staff)
Blue skull (staff)

I'm wondering if having a thief would be a good choice. Is a healer a good choice as geomancer can heal too? I wonder if having 3 spell caster is an option, I seem to waste some space for other types of character

What would you advise me to do?

Unless all you want out of the game is to play through the story once and then shelve it,
you might want to replace your story characters with generics
as those generally end up stronger (a notable exception being Laharl),
and not least, don't need to be re-acquired whenever you start a new cycle (bleh).

FWIW, this is a party I'd like to think is nicely varied / fun:

Ninja - Fist
Male Samurai - Sword
Beastmaster - Spear
Male Fighter - Axe
Lady Fighter - Bow
Thief - Gun
Geomancer - Staff, Fire spells*
Rune Knight - Staff, Wind spells*
Kunoichi - Staff, Ice spells*
[random monster I feel like using]

*= (my casters also all have Mega Star well-leveled
for neutral damage / low SP after reincarnation,
plus Healer spells via Cleric Pupils)

Even if you don't go that far in changing your lineup,
you should indeed at the very least get a Thief.
The ultimate gear and a lot of neat unique equips can only be stolen,
and high-accuracy status attacks are hardly useless, either.

Also, your Bow Healer is kind of the worst of all worlds lol.
Casters should use Staves for the power & range bonus,
but even then, Healers in this game seriously got the shaft
after being decently sturdy all-round casters in the first one.
They're meh in everything except RES, arguably the least important stat.
Only 110% in both ATK and INT plus only at best low-A Proficiency,
they end up utterly mediocre no matter what you're using them for :(

I'm only using 9 "main" party members for the purpose of Felonies
(besides it just happening to work out so nicely for the sake of variety, heh)
as this way you can tower-throw all 9 into a Dark Court at once,
netting all of them the full Felony count.

BTW, if you're planning to really delve into this game and have a PSP,
you might want to seriously consider getting the PSP Disgaea 2 instead
as that is very much the definitive version, with lots of added stuff,
be it classes, skills, spells, entire gameplay systems, QoL goodies, and whatnot.

You can still sink hundreds of hours into this one easily, mind you :D

Hye ZekuMusashi, thanks for your answer

So you're telling me to get rid of all my story characters in order to get more powerful ones. Should I reincarnate the existing characters into the one I need and level them to the same level as actual using the level 9-2 or should I create characters with spending lots of mana. I have some characters having more than 2000 mana

Do you use your geomancer as healer?

I don't have a PSP, but only play the game through the steam PC version

Sorry I'm only beginning the game and I'm not very aware of all that is possible for me

Well, it's in some regards the "optimal" choice in terms of power,
though if you're having (more) fun as-is, don't let me force you away from that, heh.

Sure why not, especially for the purposes of Weapon Mastery / skills / spells transferring over.

All my casters are part-time healers (see the * addendum),
you don't need immensely high RES or anything to be great at that.
(Worst case, a good Orb should help with any RES / SP issues).

Ah, right, that exists :P

I forget, does that version have all the PSP-added stuff, e.g. Magichange?
Because if so, I might have a slightly different party setup to suggest, for one thing.

No worries, I want to go towards the best party team possible for now.
I didn't know about the "mega star" but I'll search for it

I don't know but it seems the Steam version has all the features of the PSP game
~ The DEFINITIVE Edition! Includes all content from Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories (PS2) and Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days (PSP) ~

What changes would you advise me to do?

Ah nice, then ... how's this looking?

Ninja - Fist
+ Death Saber
Male Samurai - Sword
+ Mystic Beast
Beastmaster - Spear
+ Dragon
Male Fighter - Axe
+ Roc
Female Samurai - Bow
+ Winged
Thief - Gun
+ Rifle Demon
Rune Knight - Staff, Fire spells
+Spirit
Celestial Host - Staff, Wind spells
+Spirit
Kunoichi - Staff, Ice spells
+Spirit

[This is actually the party I finally decided on, heh.]

Yeah that's right, monsters ahoy!

For the sake of Magichange, I went with (generic because bleh cycles) monsters
that both seemed fun (wee Winged) in terms of actually using them in regular combat
- though TBH, the (level 1 lol) Spirits are only there for free SP on anyone who needs it -
and had IMO neat Magichange skills / innates, there might be better choices, dunno.

BTW, you might also want to create some utility characters,
e.g. Thieves with Fists and 3x Shoes for status infliction and moving stuff around,
some Knights for their 6 panel throwing range (dat Cave Of Ordeals 5),
Geomancers for spamming Geo Change (and lifting characters during Geo Chains),
elementally immune monsters to train your casters (on +Attack panels), ...

Plus of course not least a brigade of 9x level 1 Kunoichis with puny Bows and Speed Weights
which, if all of them do a combo on an enemy to then have a "real" character deliver the kill,
is pretty much guaranteed to rocket the Bonus Gauge all the way to maximum in one turn :D

It's just the second tier Star spell that Star Mages / Skulls and Geomancers learn,
nothing too special, it's just a cheap addition to Fire / Wind / Ice specialization.

On that /note, in case you didn't know, innate elemental resistance (the 0% 50% -50% stuff)
on your casters also affects how much spell (not skill!) damage they deal.
This isn't a problem on basic Skulls / Mages as e.g. a Red Skull will always have 50% Fire
but it's definitely something to pay attention to when creating / reincarnating other casters.
(Elemental specialists can remedy those problems / push past 50% for an even bigger boost.)

Huh, a little late to the party...

Where are you in terms of story progression? Just to keep us up to date on what you have available or not right now. Some stuff only gets unlocked (normally) at the end of the game, if not on a subsequent playhtrough. ZekuMusashi always has some good advice, though a few points I would like to add:

- Unless you used the code to start the game with the other character, you won't have access to magichange on this playthrough, and monsters are pretty bad by themselves. Not bad enough so that you'll get stuck and have to start over or anything, they are just overshadowed by the humanoid chars. Then again, some monsters are quite handy to have on a few specific situations - for example, some annoying maps can be easily won if you have a prinny on your own to toss (and remember that geo effects, such as No Lifting, are never present on the base panel. At least on this game).

- While a Thief with fists can be decent with her aptitudes, the +2 counter from the weapon can be pretty bad for her survivability. Just something to keep in mind.

- A Rifle Demon is a good monster to magichange2, but it's quite bad for regular magichange. It turns into a gun, but its HIT aptitude is terrible. I never messed enough with magichange, so I don't know if a magichange weight helps with that, so maybe once you have it it's not so bad?

- If you're early on, Beastmasters suffice as a decent replacement for both Kunoichis and Heavy Knights. They have an innate ability to boost the Bonus Gauge quicker and can throw 5 spaces. They also have decent MOV.

- Since you're playing the PC version, you have access to some of the PSP DLC chars, a few being quite powerful. They generally have good aptitudes, so they are pretty much better than anything you start with, and some are still better than even the tier 6 of some classes. Their evilities are ok, I guess. Several of them have something to do with magichange, even if you don't have access to it yet. Also, while the implementation of these chars are somewhat better than the PSP counterpart, it's far from perfect. Some interations don't make a whole lot of sense (if at all) if you do them out of order or before certain chapters, there seems to be some bug in that you randomly keep some of these chars on subsequent playthroughs without having to re-unlock them (not a big deal, but still), I think Marona can have over 25 lovers (again, no biggie), among other things.

Thank you very much ZekuMusashi and demongardian

Actually, I'm starting chapter 11.

I'll try to see and understand for what you told me about having monsters along with my characters. There are also character types that I haven't unlocked yet, I'll work on it :)

I didn't understand the purpose of the "utility characters". What about reincarnation and resistance. I haven't tried reincarnation yet, so I'm not aware of it :'(

I seem to not know much about the game when I read your messages :p

And do you think it is better to reincarnate characters that I already have to give them a new job or to create the new character with the mana my actual team has ?
