a question about a couple pictures...

i have a copy of the original final fantasy 4j that i bought a few years ago, kind of on a whim. this being the most active ff2/ff4 forum, i thought it may be the best place to ask.

now, they're blurry because i took them with my iphone(sadly, no scanner).

let me explain what is going on in case you can't make them out. they are of the same image on the original ff4j box. i can't remember the monsters' names, but i can describe them. one is a green "gargoyle" with wings, and there are 2 "birds", maybe "eagles"? as i said, i can't recall the names. anyway, the odd part is that they're fighting in the castle setting, like when you defend the castle with yang, edward/gilbert, and cecil. in the picture, it seems that rydia is casting fire(2?) on an eagle creature. here is your party with their hp levels:

i don't think that this scenario happens at all in the game. if it does, could someone please let me know where? it's a neat little look at what might have been, i suppose.

i've looked through the manual, but haven't found any other out of the ordinary pics like this. if i can get access to a scanner, i'll get a better couple of pictures.

That battle could never happen.

It looks like DK Cecil, Kain, and Yang with Young Rydia and Rosa.

None of that is normally possible.

1) Fire2/Fira cannot be learned by Young Rydia until she comes back as Older Rydia.
2) Kain leaves right after the Mist event.
3) That enemy formation does exist, but not in a castle enviornment (the battle @ Fabul never has such a formation).

Possible causes for what you see:
1) Hack
2) Hack
3) Hack

i guess they changed the story after taking that screenshot?

now that i think about it, you're the mod from the slick productions board, huh? i love your work over there.

all i was asking was that maybe it's from an early iteration of the story?

The story never changed.. the on box picture was probably made as a "demo" of sorts under some hacked scenario.

My FFMQ box has screenshots of a hacked scenario, with "Phoebe" having the name "T" with a Morning Star as the weapon instead of her usual bow... with this character at level 41.

It's just a on box picture of an internal hack, tis all.

just out of curiosity, and i hate to annoy with questions, but how do you know that it never changed at all? i don't mean to bother you, but i'm curious. from what i've read over at the ff3/6(snes) board recently, that changed a fair amount before it was released. what's to stop ff4 from being changed?

btw, i've been catching up over at the slick productions forums as of late. the unknown weapon bits thread and the spell asm thread made for interesting reading.

I don't recall many vast differences from FF6 (J) to FF3 (SNES) versions. I think the major one is what the "SrBehemoth" monster dropped.. but that's it as far as I can tell.

There aren't any dramatic differences between FF4 (J) to FF2 or FF4ET in terms of overall gameplay. There are internal differences like drops and equipment stats...

If there were to be some of the rumor mill type, Rydia was supposed to learn Cure2/Cura when she came back.. and Cid was supposed to briefly "come back" in the Giant of Bab-il scenario. Those details can be found in the SNES code.

Fun rumor mills can be started this way.

no, i meant changes in ff6 while in development for the snes. sorry if i wasn't clear.

that's what my question was about the 2 pictures i posted. if it was from a different version of the story from while the game was in development originally.
