Got rid of my old TV and have it hooked up to my new TV now, through a switch box.

When scrolling through the XMB, the screen will go blank and the auto cuts out occasionally, however it doesn't happen in a game.

Anyone else ever experience this?

Yeah it happened me too rarely and sometimes is for these 3 reasons:

1) By the console: it feels like just a random glitch, I only turned off, then turn on again and the problem is solved

2) By the TV: Yeah sounds pretty weird that a TV can glitch but again like the previous method, turn off then turn on also fix it

3) The HDMi cable: In this case I prefer turn off the console and change the cable

Since your problem says that the screen flashes and the audio cuts out, sounds like a problem with the HDMi cable or with the switch box that you mentioned (probably can have a failure?), try to connect the console to your TV directly and see if the problem still happen

^^ I've had situation #3 happen to me multiple times. Usually I just unplug and replug the HDMI cable, and the problem is solved.

IIRC, there are also situations where enabling superwhite in the XMB video settings can cause that to happen. In that case, disabling superwhite can fix the problem.

Good luck!

It's strange it's not constant just on the menu when scrolling through games.

Hopefully Sony drops a surprise PS3 Pro.

That would be cool but I'm fairly certain Sony is done with everything PS3. Except maybe for some remastered PS3 titles yet to end up on the PS4.
Having a level of standards is going to open you up to criticism of hypocrisy from people with no standards.
