I'm going to pick up a 2nd hand ps3 console tomorrow (cos they're dirt cheap now :D) and i have a feeling the controller will be some s***ty 3rd party one that doesn't work. Is there anywhere that sells official or decent 3rd party controllers online at all? I'm in the UK so no overseas or international stores.

I also have a PS4 and heard you can use that controller as well. Are there any limitations to using them? Or can I play PS3 games without any trouble?

Thanks in advance! :^)

The PS4 controller either doesn't work or some buttons don't work on certain games.

I have a wireless Power A controller. It's a pretty good controller, and it's shaped more like a Xbox controller. Needs batteries, three AAAs.
I don't know which is worse: fanboys or elitist.

The PS4 controller works for most games but the Home button and vibration don't function, a select few games have issues with it, and it doesn't have motion controls so any game that uses those won't function perfectly.

I'm actually using a converter that turns my Xbox One Elite pad into a PS4 pad, and then I've plugged that into my PS3, and I've been using that the past few weeks to play most games without issue.

I do need a PS3 pad close by if I want to use the Home button to check trophies or exit games, and for some reason the trigger buttons don't work in Nier until I turn on my PS3 controller, set that to the first controller port, and then switch it back again.

So PS4 support is decent but has a few quirks. I wouldn't rely it on 100%.

There are several topics about this over the last few weeks. Anyway, your best bet for PS3 controllers now is getting them used. There are people who actually takes care of their stuff so you can get official PS3 controllers in mint condition for very cheap.

I believe it's the home button that doesn't work, and the motion controls don't work on PS3 games either.

The "P3" knockoffs are... Okay? I don't play a lot of action games, so they work alright for me (slight lag and don't last long, but for 5 bucks), but anytime I want to play something like DMC4, you wanna use a Sony controller.

Also, I heard somewhere that Hyperkin has a wired PS3 controller. If you're okay with that, then I can tell you that at least their PS2 controllers work fantastic. Maybe check that out too.

The knock offs usually don't last long and having issues when pressing buttons, like they don't respond well, etc. I've seen a few brand new Dualshock 3's on eBay from reputable sellers for around £25 new. Might get one of them at the end of the month. For now though my Dualshock 4 is working fine for Drakengard 3 and i'm happy with that for the time being.

I was going to ask this, as I want to go back and play some PS3 games, but I've just gotten so so used to the PS4 controller. Are there any third party controllers that feel pretty similar to the PS4 controller?

I'm skeptical about the PS4 controller because of the issues with some games. I tried it once on Kingdom Hearts 1 and Sora could only walk when you moved up and right, something like that.
