For quite a long while now, every time I try to update my PS3 in order to get on PSN and get some DLC, the update always, ALWAYS fails at or around 62% and gives me the error code 8002F1F0. And I can't just forget the update and just play my games, as soon as I turn my PS3 back on, it automatically tries the update again, and won't let me cancel or do anything else.

I've somehow managed to resolve it each time that it has happened in the past, but I'm never sure what I did that fixed it, and I can't remember the processes I went through. I've never sent my system in to Sony for repairs, so I know that that's not necessary.

Please help me. I beg you. I need to know exactly how to fix this problem whenever it comes up, or possibly even prevent it from ever occuring again. But I'd like to focus on an immediate solution for now.

Try a different hard drive. The one you have might be dying.

Anything else? Like I said, I want a more immediate solution. I don't have the money for a new hard drive, and I don't even know if that's the problem, since I've fixed this when it happened before (how, I don't know).

Bump so people can see this. I really want to get back to playing my games, but I am officially sick and tired of screwing around with this error for hours on end.

You could try accessing your PS3's factory mode and then choose to rebuild its database, followed with restoring the system settings (if the former shouldn't work out). These are some basic things that you have to do when your console isn't functioning properly; however, I highly recommend you to call the customer support of Sony if the mentioned methods should fail you.
The best games for each system that I own:
ToD 1, Suikoden 3, OoT, DQ 3, P4G, Deadly Premonition, Witcher 2, Fire Emblem Awakening, DQ 5, Wayfarer of Time.

Since you have the error code, try looking on Sony's website to see what it means. Maybe that will give you an idea of whether or not you can fix it yourself.

How do I access factory mode?

I know I can fix this on my own, I just don't know what exactly I need to do. Isn't there anyone here who has had this same problem and knows how to fix it?

1. Turn off Playstation 3 (leave it on standby).

2. Hold The power button down; the system will turn on and turn off by itself.

3. Once the System has been shutdown, hold the power button again until you hear 2 consecutive beeps.

4. When you hear the 2 beeps take your finger off the power button.

5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button

6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

Not sure what the correct term is; factory mode or recovery menu, but both seem to be correct. Anyway, this is how you do it.

So, what's going to happen once I rebuild the database? Will I lose anything?

Well, I did what you said, and it didn't work. After the double beep, it just tried (and failed) the update again.
