Half Life 2 required registering with Steam. Everyone loves Valve.

I think Diablo 3 requires registering with Battlenet?

2K's Civ V requires registering with Steam.

But if EA does it... hate, hate, boycott, hate, EA is the worst, hate.

Gamefaqs at work.

Steam is superior to Origin.

Except Origin is just a carbon copy of Steam, but then also inferior and unnecessary.

Battle.net is also for the matchmaking etc

Irrelevant. The point is they require registering with a sales portal even if you don't want to, and for playing an SP game you shouldn't need to. Yet here they are being defended for doing the same thing EA gets hate for. Gamefaqs at work.

Yes but Origin (and then Ubi's) are unnecessary because Steam was set (and did for a while) to handle it all. It wasn't that it was EA doing it, it was that they copied Steam and made PC users download yet another client to use. And have you ever played BF3 on PC? Not only do you need the Origin client the damn game uses your web browser to launch too! The main ones are Steam, Origin, Ubi, Battle.net and GFWL and while some work together it's still annoying since there's more clients than there are consoles!

Plus for some games you do need to for SP on the PC so do you really think it will be long before it creeps onto consoles as well (already is for the XBLA Indie games).

Ya wouldn't be worth it to me either. I love the Origin is so unpopular that they try to force you to use it, like that SW MMO you needed to use it too. Just give up EA, you can't beat Steam.

The counter to that I usually use is that Steam was grossly unpopular and much hated when it first came out.

Still, this is EA at the helm. I don't see Origin becoming a haven for EA games to be given awesome sales and consumer friendly DRM.

"BUT GUYZ ORIGINS HAS 39 MILLIONZ USERS1!1111!!"

This is what EA does to boost numbers and make claims that people actually give a damn about their service.

Wait, when exactly did I create an Origin account to play the beta?

Oh, yeah, that's right, I didn't.

I created an EA account on November 3, 2009 that was tied to my gamertag.

How about trying to sell an used Crysis 3? It will be tied with your Origin account.

The ROM part of DVD-ROM is for Read-Only Memory. How will a specific disc be tied with an origin account when the disc can't be written to?
