In a quick glance, the key for getting 12-types teams seems to be in using Magneton and Gengar, those beeing the only Steel and Ghost-type, respectively.

Well, Gengar can be skipped. And after much thinking, I found that Magneton can be skipped too! Here's the Magneton-less alternative:

Normal/Flying or Dragon/Flying or Fire/Flying
Rock/Ground (Golem, Rhydon)
Water/Fighting (Poliwrath)
Ghost/Poison (Gengar)
Ice/Psychic (Jynx)
Bug/Grass (Parasect. Hey, the little guy is fairly cool)

It's true that with FR/LG limitations you probably always need to incorporate at least one of the two, though.

@gbchaosmaster I like the thought you put into this. That deserves a like... if only Gamefaqs would give us that feature.

That was the point.
If you don't get'em (and don't get legendaries either) you skip 3 types (Ghost, Electric and Steel).
If you get Zapdos for Elcetric-type you still skip Fire, Dragon and Normal-types, and that's a great limitation.

I'm still thinking of a Gengar/Magneton free 12-type team (now is just a matter of honor).

After thinking for a while, I came to a conclusion. Considering:
- we're talking about 1st generation Pokedéx (#001-151);
- there's no DARK-type Pokémon yet;
- we are trying to exclude Magneton and Gengar simultaneously;
- ELECTRIC, DRAGON, FIRE and NORMAL-types only combine with FLYING-type;
We only have 11 types available:

BUG
DRAGON/ELECTRIC/FIRE/NORMAL (if you pick one, you lost the other three)
FIGHTING
FLYING
GRASS
GROUND
ICE
POISON
PSYCHIC
ROCK
WATER

Even if we had all the others combinations available (which we have not), it's impossible, for this generation, to have 12 different types on the same team if Magneton and Gengar are excluded simultaneously.
English isn't my native language, so I apologize for any error.

So, based on this topic, my team will be:

PIDGEOT normal/flying
PARASECT bug/grass
MAGNETON electric/steel
HAUNTER ghost/poison
RHYDON ground/rock
LAPRAS water/ice

I'm only missing DARK, DRAGON, FIGHTING, FIRE and PSYCHIC-types
English isn't my native language, so I apologize for any error.
