As***a no Joe - A
Carrier Aces - B
Pit Fighter - B
PTO 2 - A
Super Back to the Future 2 - B
Super F1 Circus - B

I've always felt that boxing is a genre that has difficulty translating into game form. Punch-Out and its derivatives are decent, but it functionally eliminates the offensive side of boxing, basically just having you learn enemy tells and counterpunch rather than actively attacking yourself. Other games take a more aggressive approach, often playing a bit like fighting games, but without much control over ranges and movement that are crucial to the genre, so they usually just end up as button mashers. As***a No Joe also falls into the latter category, though at least it boasts some very nice animations. I'll be interested to see if we ever come across some better attempts at the sport as we move on through the systems.

Carrier Aces looks nice, but it's very dull. Pretty much the entire game takes place of extremely slow-paced dogfights where you spend ages trying to circle around each other and land a few shots before having to repeat the circling process again. There are other components to missions, but they require no less than 8 dogfights before you can access them, so you'll be spending an eternity doing lousy dogfights before you can play any of the rest of the game, and it's simply not worth the trouble.

Pit Fighter is a legendarily bad game on Genesis, and somehow this version is like a thousand times worse, with far fewer animation frames, more lag, worse visuals overall, way worse backgrounds, less responsive controls, a far worse HUD, worse sound, and basically every other downgrade you could possibly imagine. This version is so bad that the Genesis game would be a G by comparison. Maybe the worst SNES game overall.

After playing a million RotK sequels, I was expecting PTO2 would probably be mostly the same as the original game, but it's actually drastically different. Most obviously, the presentation has been completely overhauled, with some nice new animations and a totally new UI, but the gameplay is also very different, generally being much more complex and giving you much more fine-grained control over your fleet. As you might remember when we did the first PTO, I found one of the best things about that game was that it was relatively simple to understand and pretty fast-paced, so the return to the menus upon menus and slower-paced style of some of the later RotK games is a downgrade in my opinion. Getting anything done in this game takes far longer compared to its predecessor, not only just because it's more complex but also because turns are divided into more phases and this means more time for the computer to plan their move and more text to wade through. Funny enough, I just realized that I have the same opinion about all of Koei's strategy games - between RotK, Uncharted Waters, PTO, and Aerobiz, my preference is always the first game because it's faster-paced and more tightly designed (I also feel this way about SimCity and numerous other games). Some things never change.

Okay, so Super Back to the Future 2 is definitely not the Back to the Future game we've been waiting for. It's an extremely simple platformer that cribs a lot (unsuccessfully) from Sonic the Hedgehog. Marty rides a hoverboard the entire game here, and when you jump, you do a spinjump that makes you completely invincible to everything expect spikes, ala Sonic's jump. You can also move fast by holding a button, and that's the entire game. The physics are quite wonky and they're inexplicably a lot of slowdown, which generally makes the game feel cheap and poorly made. Despite this, the music is pretty solid (even though most of it is just remixes of the movie's main theme), it's fairly easy, and it does follow the plot of the movie pretty well, so I wasn't hating my time with the game, it's just not something I can recommend unless you're crazy about the franchise.

In last week's review of F1 Circus 2 I stated that the game was massively improved from its predecessor, so you can probably guess that the first game isn't very good. Unlike the sequels, which use a pseudo-3D graphics engine, the first game is a top-down racer, which obviously severely limits how far you can see in front of you, but its problems don't end there. The controls are also terrible and the game disqualifies you if you hit much of anything, and it's also lacking many of the niceties of the sequel like the quick customization options and generally simplified interface. This one is a dud for sure, but it's nice to see how they were able to improve it with the second game.

Greatest Heavyweights for Genesis is a unique take on the genre that might be worth your time (assuming you haven't played it or worked that far into the game pool yet).

I'll try and rate some of these in due time, but for now, @Terotrous I've noticed that on the GAB website, Sailor Moon: Fuwa Fuwa Panic 2 is listed as having zero votes (it only got one B vote from yourself, so it's still in the LR zone), and Torneko's Mystery Dungeon is listed as having 75% (4), but is in the MR zone rather than HR. Also, a minor formatting error in the PS1 section - you're missing a line break between Fighting Force and Final Fantasy.
I know what you're thinking, but the funny thing is, I don't even like video games.

Thanks for the corrections. As for Greatest Heavyweights, it looks like we actually never rated that for GAB, even though we went through several rounds of people naming games that they found that we hadn't done yet. I'll have to try it out sometime just for context.
