If they canbe, can they be reformated?

If so, what do you do to reformat them?

It's possible. When a game tries to save it will tell you the Memory Card is unformated and will ask if you want to format it. Then you just say yes.

Memory card corruption is rare. Usually only happens if you turn the game off while it's saving. However never use "Mega Memory Cards" that look like this:

Those have a very high chance of corruption because they use compression to save more data than they're supposed to.

Yes, the PS2 can format it, but you need to use a PS1 game.

Also, the I've had this mega memory card for nearly 2 decades and haven't had any problems out of it.
Keep in mind I still use this card. I accessed it maybe a week ago.

So take that how you will.

I think the moral here is to take care of your stuff and it will take care of you.

I had the top one. It was my first memory card, and the only one I needed. The clear one with the LCD screen and two buttons. It was awesome for a while. It lasted for a small number of years, but then it went bad. I agree: don't buy.

I've never had a Sony memory card for PS1, so I can't speak on those. Now I mainly use a blue Nyko memory card. Nyko seems to make good stuff, for a third party company.

Alarmist s***e.

I have a variety of those type cards (as well as 2 or 3 of those fantastic VMEM virtual memory cards) and have had no problems using them. And as of Dec / Jan, they were all still working and fully functional.

Nintendo: currently having to compete with the homeless for materials to maintain their 8th gen status. What's next, Ninty? Begging? :D

Has anybody tried those memory cards that were shaped like characters? I remember one was Lara Croft, and one was the wrestler Bill Goldberg. I was wondering if those go bad.

Were they licenced by Sony?

Most of my memory cards are the SONY ones (The ones with a proper chip in them, rather than a little blob) and I have yet to have any issues with them. The 3rd-party ones I am more cautious with, especially since one of them fried a PSone some time ago. :/
