What's your favorite soundtrack from this year?

Consider creativity, sound chip limitations and technical achievement, composition (melody or hook, progression, complexity), dynamics (range between quiet and loud, soft/diminuendo and hard/crescendo), pitch range, instrument and instrument envelope variety and quality, and so on. We're going by original release dates.

Try to say something about your favorite(s), it's more fun to read!

Regarding the links below, the list on my site is more complete (I've listened to every game I could find from each year) and multiplatform, but mainly based on sound design analysis which you can read more about on the main page about retro sound chips. If an OST isn't in the poll list, it's mosty likely still on that page and you can still vote for it (pick Other and mention it here), so don't worry.

SoR2 for programming, melodies and nostalgia, though I prefer SoR1.

I hesitated between Thunder Force IV and Streets of Rage 2, but finally I went for Thunder Force IV.

My top pick:

Streets of Rage 2 (Sega Mega Drive) - Composed by Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima. "Go Straight" is my favourite track. Well, this is it. Yuzo Koshiro's magnum opus, the pinnacle of 16-bit chiptune EDM. It was a major technical feat. Using a mixture of FM synth and PCM sampling, Koshiro was able to recreate Roland EDM instruments like the TR-808 and TR-909 drum machines, and the TB-303 bass synth. Something he started with the first SOR, but pulled off more successfully in SOR2, where the instruments have greater clarity. The OST has an eclectic mix of different EDM styles, including techno, house, acid, electro-funk, breakbeat, hip hop, deep house, and hardcore techno.

Runner-up:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Sega Mega Drive) - Composed by Masato Nakamura. "Emerald Hill Zone" is my favourite track. This soundtrack represents the pinnacle of classic Sonic music. It improves on the original with more varied musical styles, including jazz, funk, new jack swing, hip hop, synth-pop, synth-rock, and even some Arabic music. "Chemical Plant Zone" is my second favourite track, after "Emerald Hill Zone".
