What are you going from? 10 to 11? Are you doing a clean install or an in-place upgrade? The in-place upgrade is basically like updating Windows 10, it shouldn't take long at all.

I'd back up your important stuff either way.

I would do a backup 1st, just in case, but otherwise, the update went OK for me.

Back up your stuff.

Move any folders / files on your desktop to another temporary folder just in case.

Definitely backup. A quick one is to copy your user profile to a usb drive or something just in case Windows nukes it.

It's always better to do a clean install.

Depends on your goal.
I'm pretty sure the optimal solution is to upgrade. And if that fails, then do the clean install. No need to create more work and disruption for yourself.

If you're doing the Windows 10-11 thing then just do whatever Windows tells you to do. It's all pretty much fool proof now

It's not like it's 2002 and you're trying to do an in place upgrade from 98SE to XP.

Just do it.

Yea but I haven't had to since windows 10 except on the new build which was brand new anyways... did the 11 upgrade flawlessly.

It handles all of that stuff much better nowadays don't even need to re-install due to winrot anymore... but still a clean install does eliminate any potential variable if you did have an issue down the line with things acting weird.

just do things like sfc /scannow after the upgrade (you should do that on a routine anyways) or dism. There is also the Fresh Start option.
