C drive properties have "Compress this drive to save space" unticked.
Just before I had to go into Desktop properties and some other folders to untick the "Compress contents to save disk space" option and also looked in settings>storage where Storage Sense was already turned off and yet when I download anything, for example a pdf to my desktop, it still compresses automatically and in properties has "Compress contents to save disk space" tick on. Yes I've rebooted.

Any ideas on how to stop it?

Edit: Ok so the same thing downloaded through Edge doesn't auto-compress like when I previously DLd it through Firefox.

It didn't *start* with Firefox, started this morning after I derped and installed the RE2 demo with apparently not enough space* and I guess Windows decided to compress User files (desktop, documents etc and strangely just the Intel folder on C).
I did untick all of those from the compressing thing then checked all the settings but after all that seemingly only Firefox is ignoring it for some reason still which I didn't realise when posting originally. Going to reinstall Firefox tomorrow.

*edit: required 7 or 8gig, only had ~11 gig free.

Didn't use edge or chrome, it's all your own fault. :p

I might look at just using Edge, IIRC it has adblock addons now. I've only used it for PDFs so far. Thought Chrome was always considered the worst offender for RAM usage.

No, it wasn't. It's been recently been considered that. Back a decade ago all the jokes about consuming RAM were made at the expense of Firefox. I'm not entirely sure when that stopped exactly but Chrome was considered the leaner browser. I noticed that changing around 2014 or so but I'm not sure when the jokes for Chrome actually started. Incidentally, that's just after when Chrome started being the most used browser. So at least part of that perception is probably fuelled by its popularity, as opposed to any facts.
