I just managed to get a copy of windows 7 onto this thing but its seriously struggling..i suspect its because I am lacking all these default drivers that came with the laptop.....i have long lost the discs, are there any programs out there that scan all your hardware and then get your drivers for you? it was hard enough finding the Ethernet driver for this thing

You can search for drivers on the manufacturer's website. Do you have the model number of the laptop?

What are the specs? What's the model name?

I'd just try doing a clean install of Win10 using your Win7 key

This, everything was automatic for me on my desktop even when I reformatted with Windows 10.

What? It’s easy enough to replace a drive in a laptop that is capable. Doesn’t seem like a douchey thing at all...would be more douchey to just toss the thing out when someone else could use it.

Doesn't work like that on laptops however.

You have to like install 10-20 "drivers" including the "intel storage management" thing manually, and you need to know exactly what parts your laptop actually has and which manufacturer (wifi, bt, etc)

It's a huge pain in the ass to say the least, you also might or might not need the "Microsoft Windows upgrade assistant" even when going from win 10 to win 10...

Heres some of the stuff I had to manually install , I'm sure I've missed some still...

(and some of those aren't on the laptop manufacturer's website either, you have to check parts manufacturers too, like intel, etc, and Microsoft, of course)

PS: when I say I had to, I mean someone else did, because there's no way I'd ever figured this s*** out... Point is the laptop didn't function correctly at all before all of these and several "automatic" updates were installed (windows didn't update by itself at all before doing this stuff, just gave some weird error codes)
