Got the itch to upgrade my system but from what I am reading nothing is much better than my i7 3770.

Looking at the 8700k and from the looks its better but not door blowing better.

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i7-8700K-vs-Intel-i7-3770/3098vs896

Any other CPUs that would be worth looking at? Looking to spend 600-700 bucks for a new CPU/Mobo/Ram still going to use my SSD/GPU (980ti)/ect. I dont really want to use AMD but its certainly not off the table I just have not kept up on AMD at all since my Phenom 2 940.

Or should I just stick it out with my 3770? Since I only game in 1440/60fps and have no want for anything higher in resolution or FPS.

It sucks that your PC is still fine and you don't need to spend money?

Alrighty then.

Yeah it does this system is almost 7 years old I expect something should be worth upgrading to by now. 8700k would also give me ability to OC and I would have DDR4 ram so there is that too but I would like to know if it is faster enough to be worth it. My case is also a peice of s*** so I could probably pick up a 30-50 buck case and it will kick the hell out of my current case.

I've got a 4770k and I feel the same way

yeah an 8700k is an upgrade but is it worth the $650~ for CPU+mobo+RAM? Hell f***ing no

and nothing AMD has is worth it yet for me, I basically get the same(or slightly better) single core perf as-is. I'm hoping Zen 2 will bring something affordable worth upgrading to but I'm not holding my breath

Thats way past my budget with the RAM, Mobo, and CPU cooler I would need to buy.

Yeah I guess I just gotta wait it out. I cant believe the longevity of these old I7 CPUs its incredible and frustrating at the same time.

Maybe upgrade your monitor? Add an additional monitor.. buy a nice keyboard/mouse and add some expensive headphones or speakers? Another SSD never hurt.

It's a good thing your hardware is still relevant, allows you to wait longer for something better while upgrading other peripherals.

Why spend the money on hardware if it's getting the job done?

I went from an i7 3770k to an i7 8700k. Yeah you need the new mobo, ram, good cooling solution.

There are upsides to upgrading. 4 cores at 4.2 doesn't help as much as 6 at 5.0, especially with video editing. Record some video with your phone, edit with Adobe or Vegas, put it up on Youtube and complain you only have 12 threads and 32 gigs of ram to work with.

Gaming wise I'd start thinking of pushing those settings higher. My 3770k and 980 were starting to push it.

I would like a new monitor because I like HDR. HDR on my 55 inch Sony is amazing in 4 K but for a Monitor I would like a 27-32inch 1440p HDR and a year or more ago when I looked for one I could not find any. Maybe I will look around and see how the situation is on 1440 HDR monitors.
