Ok so on Windows 10 if I turned off a displayport monitor I would hear the disconnect sound windows plays. When I turn the monitor on I hear the connecting sound. The monitor turns on, flashes black for about 3 seconds and then comes back and works normally.

Recently I reformatted my pc and the issue went away, but recently it started happening again. This has never happened on my linux drive, only on windows. It is a bit annoying.

Thats annoying about displayport. Apparently they assume that TVs with DP connected to PCs will be constantly shut on and off. So OSes are recommended to take that into account. I.e. change your entire monitor settings when a DP monitor/TV is turned off. Which is f***ing annoying with multiple monitor setup.

So I dont even bother turning off my monitors. Just set the power settings to black out after X minutes.

Here is the interesting part. I disconnected all my monitors except my displayport one and when i shut that one off it still disconnects and plays the disconnect sound. It bothers me because a reformat fixes the issue temporarily, and it never happens on linux. So I feel like there is a setting somewhere in windows for this, but I cannot find it

Check your monitor settings for Deep Sleep option, turn it off and it shouldn't disconnect.

Newsflash, my HDMI connected TV does this. It's the audio input disconnecting. It could be the same thing for you.
