I've only played the first and the second one but I'd say the first one. It feels...dunno, the most "pure", I suppose. DD2 is a free to play game that puts a lot of emphasis on playing with random other people. Note that you most likely should play the first one with others, too - even though single player exists, it's quite hard to do it by yourself and almost impossible to play the higher difficulties, where you get better XP and loot drops. At any rate, I feel DD2 lost some of is the charm in the process of pushing online play. Also, I don't like the F2P economy.

I have not played Eternity, which is the remaster, remake, redesign, re-whatever of the first game but I didn't hear good things about it. I think one of the bigger complaints was that they added microtransactions to it, too.

I can't stand the second one. The first one is pretty cool, although gets pretty grindy towards the top.

The games are really dlc-heavy.

1, the first one is amazing and I have over 1K hours in it. The second one is freaking terrible and not at all like the first one

Is there a reason to play the first instead of the remake of the first? The remake is everything the first game has for way less, and then some new stuff.

Last I heard, Eternity isn't even supported any more and was ditched completely because everyone was still playing DD1, which still gets updates sometimes. It is also missing some of the content from DD1 like a few maps, skins, pets etc

Ah Dungeon Defenders, memories of another game that I preordered that got murdered by DLC and not loyalty prices for owners of the base game. Only for new customers.

Wat? The DLC was super cheap and added a ton of content to cover the cost. DLC was how they kept the game running as long as they did by supporting it and releasing super affordable DLC. IIRC, most of the maps were like 2-6 dollars and you didn't have to have them all.

Absolutely fair price for DLC for long term players, it was really the new players who had a harder time because they had to buy a back log of DLC if they wanted to play all of the content, where as long term players paid a couple dollars a month and stayed up to date

Maybe you are thinking of Dungeon Defenders 2, which was dog feces
