Never?

I'm floored. Because I owned Half life forever ago it gave it to me for free and I never knew it had to be purchased.

It also came free with the counter strike disks as well as included in one of the original half life updates.

Apparently it was free before the existence of steam. Makes me wonder why they would sell something they used to give away for free. It also makes me wonder how many people actually BOUGHT it (outside of buying the valve complete pack).

Anyway, I did some testing of a few of the VR games (I got hungry so I took a break to get food ready).

Giant Cop: It's a fun little game built around looking for tiny people doing crime and then tossing them into a big target area where they presumably go straight to jail without collecting $200. 👍

VTOL: This one feels more like a fast paced flight simulator than Ultrawings.... They're both worth owning but Ultrawings feels more casual while VTOL is more serious. DCS would definitely be more serious than them both, but you need a HOTAS for that one.👍

Vertigo: It's like a cross between portal (but not really) and Climbey (but not really) with some FPS elements thrown in. It was cheap and it's probably worth the $3 but I probably wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't on sale. I'll have to give this one more time to really decide how I feel. 🤔

The problem I have with Airtone is that the difficulty curve goes up too sharply.

Holy hell, I bought this and gave it a shot. In general, it's pretty fun but, yeah, I tried songs 1 and 2 on Easy... Ok, it's a bit too easy but nothing odd so far. Then I tried song 2 on Medium and I think I needed 4 arms to pull that off. I can only imagine what Hard is like. The other problem with it is that the music is almost entirely instrumental. It's hard to build a mental map of the beats when it all sounds so same-y.

I still like it but I don't think it's a game I'm going to stress about 100% Perfect'ing.

It has a level as well as the "easy" "medium" and "hard" settings, and getting through one song will unlock others (and some junk to play with in the little room with the Hatsune Miku ripoff chick).

For me, I think I could get past level 4 ok, but anything more than that and I started missing too many notes and started failing. The first 1-3 levels are easy to get a full combo and perfect even.... but yeah, it doesn't go up gradually at all.

I'm pretty sure there's lyrics in there, but some of it is in Japanese and some of it is in bad Engrish.

Like that... lyrics... but it's hard to understand.

Apparently this is someone almost acing it on Hard:

(since the max you can score is 100,000 on any level I think)

OK, I played a bit more of Vertigo and I think I can weigh in on it. It's kinda like Half-Life (strange mishap in science lab) and Portal (your teleporter basically opens a portal that you have to drag over you to go into it) and some of the humor is also present ("Attention: There are no emergency exits below level 2. Please refrain from having emergencies.").

The combat is kinda lame at first (you get a laser baton, sorta like the crowbar only it's also a source of light!), but eventually you get a gun that reminds me a bit of the guns in Rec Room (except it auto reloads so you don't have to pull a lever). Seems like there's a mix of puzzles on how to get past certain blockages, some annoying combat, and some obstacle course type navigation like climbing ladders, ducking under a doorway that barely opens, crawling through vents...except the game doesn't force you to crawl so you can stand in the vent and feel like "WTF is this?" until you crawl and see that it's supposed to be an air vent.

There's a boss battle pretty early in too... I've still only barely scratched the surface, but I have no idea how much more is left to go other than the floor numbers get bigger as I go up, but since this whole thing is supposed to be underground you would think they'd make the floor numbers get bigger as you went downward. That might actually give you a clue as to how many floors left to go before you got out of the base though.

Anyway, for $3 it's a steal. Unfortunately it's up to $14.99. (ouch) I thought it was normally $8 or something. Maybe it'll actually be worth $15...
