Struggling to get a clear cut answer here and whether I should roll with a 4k Monitor, or go with a 2K monitor. Have a cheap Asus 1080P monitor that was like 100 bucks.

Looking between a Rog or Predator monitor, but then comes the nitty gritty of finding a IPS panel and it seems like most of them end up being 4k. Curious what the community would recommend.

Specs.

i7-6700k w/ NZXT-Kraken liquid cooler
EVGA 1080 FTW
Gigabyte z170x-UD5 Mobo

Cheers!

I'd go with 2k/high refresh personally. But I'm not sure what you're preferences are. Are you more concerned with rez or refresh? And is your $1200 budget just for the monitor?

Just the monitor. I have a lot of disposable income because of recent events in my life. I do a mix of gaming though. I play a lot of Rust, CS:GO, League, RS3, 7 Days to Die, and Overwatch.

With that setup you should bet going with Gsync and 1440p.

PG279Q or xb271hu if you want a good balance of IPS 1440p/144hz with g-sync.

What's more important to you, higher resolution or higher refresh rate? Our recommendations really don't matter until you make that decision. Doesn't matter what any of us think.

With a 1080 gtx he can either get 1080p with 100+ fps

or

he can get a better image with 1440p with 60+ fps and still have a gett frame veiwing with the gsync I play GTA V with my 32" 1440p gsync monitor and I also have a 24" 1080p just to compare while I did get the higher fps on the 1080p it did not look no where near as good as the 1440p even though it had a lower fps at around 80fps with 1440p.

both monitors have gsync so I would choose the hight resolution at 1440p over the 1080p.
