Offhand, 40k is sci-fi, traditional warhammer is fantasy.
It's not the fall that kills you, it's the rapid deceleration.....

Warhammer is fantasy, warhammer 40k is scifi

In terms of the other things you listed, none of them are exclusive to a game simply because it takes place in either setting

The Warhammer games have nothing at all to do with Sim City. Sim City is a city simulation (as the name implies). You design and lay out all the infrastructure for a city and try to make it profitable and self-sustaining, as well as look nice.

The Warhammer games are all about combat. Most of the older ones I can recall were turn-based, although from Dawn of War and onward, they went more real-time, and even first- or third-person action. Dawn of War, for instance, is an RTS that plays very much like Company of Heroes (they're based on the same engine, of course). So yeah, the Warhammer franchise has basically nothing at all to do with Sim City. Your opinion for or against Sim City would have nothing to do with whether you like any of the Warhammer games or not. I'm a bit unclear what you thought might be similar about them.

Well, no, his question seemed pretty clear... Warhammer is a fantasy franchise, with elves, dwarfs, orcs, goblins, etc. Warhammer 40k is a sci-fi franchise, with different alien factions like orks (similar enough to "orcs"), eldar, necrons, t'au, tyranids, etc. They are two very distinct settings and things, but similar overall concepts in their games.

The point the TC lost me is bringing Sim City into the mix - because it has nothing at all to do with any of this.
