The image is still blurry however, because of the low internal res used + all art assets apparently have the blur filter applied to each of them in the data as well. Not sure what will be done about the former, but the latter modders are working on bringing all the original art over to work with the Steam version. People started this for the sprites used in the PC version of FFVI shortly after that launched, but it isn't done yet and is a smaller undertaking than what needs to be done with CT.

SE took a s***, wiped their ass with this game, put it in the s*** they just took, then put the whole thing in an open box with a few stickers and a stale air freshener, and put it on Steam.

The blocking was worse than the blurring imo. Has that been fixed?

Not clear on why you go to that trouble instead of just emulating the SNES/PS1/DS versions, depending on how much extra content you want.

Nope. SE tangled this up with so many issues it'll take modders a lot of time and serious work to restore, if they ever do. Which is too bad because SE flexed a bit with this techwise. Instead of permanent black bars (it only uses them in areas that wouldn't make use of the added space - oneroom zones that are too small for example) or horizontal stretch to fit, it fits horizontally and shows more at once in widescreen without zooming out etc. Basically dumping an SNES game into widescreen and getting it to fit hori naturally without redrawing assets because it just shows more of the game. Something emulation has not been capable of yet.

Almost like they wanted people to know they could have done a great job and also made it better than ever, but chose to go the other direction as a bunch of f*** yous for some reason. Don't forget the trailer used HD uncompressed versions of the PS1 cutscenes, and the release uses the compressed PS1 versions instead. "We could have, but we didn't."

The rate of modding progress is pretty good for a week. I may not refund this anymore but I won't retract my negative review.

Can you explain this mentality? Refunding and rebuying if/when the job's done sends an actual message to SE, especially if modding progress stalls and it ends up being left as is. Instead negative reviews keep going up as more people buy the game to downvote it while waiting on mods.

I also don't understand why someone would pay to restore the game. I'd get it if the company was defunct and/or the release state of the game wasn't an intentionally botched job, but with CT it's clear SE made more efforts to make it harder for modders to restore than they made to make it look at least as good as other ways to play it on PC. Smearing each asset and putting a blur filter on top is very telling. They knew removing the screen blur filter would be seen as the quick easy fix to quality loss since that was the case with the FFV and FFVI ports. So they went the extra mile and smeared all the assets one by one so modders would be in for a surprise when they removed the screen blur filter.

Incompetence is a better explanation than intentional malice. They probably thought blurring the tiles ahead of time would be easier than coding a filter to blur the whole screen.

I'm mostly blown away at the position these people hold tbh. It's seemingly unbelievable to hold a position where you can trash something that is very important to people, have them buy it knowing it's trash, and then have some people that bought it slave away to clear all the trash from it even though they know it isn't accidental or neglectful trash. Like wow. That's a pretty big flex by SE.

You know your PC port is bad when you get a better experience emulating the console versions...
