Thing is i dont have a wheel, just the touch controllers. Can any of the vr racing games be played with the touch controllers: eg putting your vr hands on the wheel or using the thumbstick etc

Also which is the best vr racing game you think?

Cheers in advance

I recommend Assetto Corsa and Project CARS 2. Don't think you can use those motion controllers. Just get a gamepad or save up for a steering wheel. I just got a like new G27 for $50 from some guy on OfferUp.

Dirt Rally, Project Cars 2, and Assetto Corsa are the go to.

If you don't have a wheel you can use a controller, most are set up for the xbox controller

There aren't likely to be many games that do this, and I don't think it would be very ideal anyway. You'd be stuck holding your hands up in midair, trying to keep them together like you're holding a steering wheel, no force feedback (pretty critical if you're using a wheel-type control system), etc. Your arms would get tired so bloody fast.

Is the controller motion or thumbstick?

The problem with using "virtual controls" in any simulator is that your hands will easily become tired if you hold them out like you're holding a steering wheel. Hell, just take a slip of paper and hold it out at arm's length and you'll quickly find that it feels heavy. (I guess that's the weight of your arms that you're holding up more than the paper).

X-Plane 11 has a VR beta mode that lets you use the vive wands to control everything, but what you really do is "grab" the yoke and then use the tilt of the controller from there as if it was the yoke. You don't have to hold your arm out in front of you because you can stick the bottom of the controller against your leg and move the top around like a virtual stick.

If the Rift has a similar feature, I haven't heard about it. Even if there IS a "use the motion controls to grab the wheel" mode, it'll be a novelty and not a replacement for a wheel and pedals, or an actual controller. If you're lucky it'll use the thumbsticks instead of requiring you to hold out your arms, but I guarantee that you'd probably do better with a standard xbox 360 controller.

You really need a wheel man. At worst use a gamepad.
