Had my PC since September 2015, legit Windows Pro. My Motherboard died, so I got a new one. Exact same brand/model. Reassembled it, exactly as was, same windows installation even.

When I turned it on, it said my Windows was not activated and had a permanent grey message in the right corner. Just spent 90 minutes on the phone with them and they have no idea how to re-register the licence to my computer, they can clearly see it is the same PC etc, but all the technical stuff they've attempted hasn't worked (they are remote controlling my PC).

It is pretty appalling if I'm honest, this new system of tying the key to your Microsoft account was meant to be foolproof and do away with the hassle of needing to record product keys, but this is a shambles and worrying from Microsoft.

I don't know what the goggles do but I'm gouging my eyes out with the spork!

Their support sucks. I made one of them angry by doing what he was trying to do through Remote but failing (I moved the mouse and did the command he kept doing wrong). He put an empty folder on my desktop that somehow took up 60gb of space and then disconnected from the session. Only way to remove it was to format the drive.

Not kidding btw. MS support has never solved anything for me before, except for when they gave me a refund for Gears of War 4.

Yup the support was a failure, and very slow and impersonal .But my big take away was the failure of this digital licence tied to my Microsoft account. Wholly inadequate.

yeah ms support sucks

as least you can buy from a key site dirt cheap.It's what i'll be doing when i change my cpu/mobo.

I won't even bother with their support.

Sounds like to me that the microsoft account thing just complicated matters instead of making it easier. I bet they could have had it fixed in 10 minutes or less (provided your license allowed you to transfer it to a new computer and wasn't a 1 computer only OEM license).
