Whether you build it or buy a pre-built doesn't matter. I'm just saying, make the sacrifice and spend at bare minimum $1,000. If you don't you'll straight up - out of the box - have a PC that won't max a lot of games and you'll have a meh experience.

Also, I forgot to mention, that PC is not VR ready. They say it is because it has the required ports in the back, but you'll get awful framerates in most VR games.

It would cost me like an extra grand for VR. Out of my budget. Already spent like 2 grand on my build. And this is before the prices on GPUs became stupid.

I normally don't like prebuilts but I bought this for my sister on black friday

https://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-580-023w-i5-7400-Graphics/dp/B077S27YLP/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1516520658&sr=8-11&keywords=pc+gaming+computer

for $400, it's $600 now but worth it, than building with the inflated prices

Price vs Performance, that's going to be really hard to beat. I don't play R6 or WoW, but I can tell you that machine will run the hell out of Heroes and Overwatch. If I were going to buy today, then that PC would be on the short list. You can basically forget everything Tekken9292 said, he's still playing by the pre-miners' rules. Is that HP super great? Nope, but you'll get at least three solid years out of it, maybe more. Maybe by then you'll actually be able to find a GPU on a store shelf.

GPU's typically last about 3 years before you need to upgrade, so ya by then I should find something. Although with overclocking and lowering some settings I can push another year or so on it. Its a 1080 (non Ti) btw.

That HP is fine today but I wouldn't want it for long term. I don't want to buy into old platforms, and it's just an i5.

Pre-builts can be bad when it comes to BIOS updates and weak/bad PSUs.

You can just change out the PSU. Biggest issue is lack of RAM, weak GPU, or weak CPU.

Sometimes the power port on the motherboard is proprietary and requires an adapter to use a standard PSU. Besides, having to pay extra for another component makes it even more expensive.

The motherboard seems to only have two RAM slots, which makes it more annoying to get more RAM, but it'd still be easy to get 2 8GB sticks in the future if necessary.

A weak GPU is just an issue in the short term. One can easily get the latest and greatest GPU whenever one wants. The GTX 1050 Ti is outperforming the GTX 680 today, that's how fast GPUs improve.

The CPU though, that's the biggest issue for long term. There's nothing better for that motherboard than the i7 7700/7700k, and there never will be, and that'd also be an expensive upgrade.

Was expecting crap, but that's actually solid for the price. I would be worried about upgradability with that case, but people buying budget pre-builts probably aren't too concerned about that.

Overall verdict:

Don't buy a bottlenecked, slightly behind the times PC for $600.
Make the sacrifice and dish out around $1,200

Lol, you're telling somebody on a budget to not buy a performant, sensibly priced pre-built, but to spend twice the amount? Great advice. TC - ignore him, if you DO get stutter in games (which is rarer than he's implying), just knock textures etc. from 'ultra' down to 'high' and you should be fine. OP also discredits himself by calling Doom a 'poor port' when it has been shown to be very scaleable/perform well on a variety of machines, and was even made to run on the Switch.

Pretty sure it's not worth the trouble. That's a custom motherboard and it's not worth the hassle for something you're only planning to keep around for the next three to four years. PSU burnouts aren't as common as we make them out to be. I've still got an HP running from 1999.
