He was 36.

I just find it interesting how set-for-life some of these early game creators became. Nasir Gebelli. Did a lot of early Squaresoft work, including Final Fantasy and Secret of Mana (which is getting a PC remake soon). Apparently after finishing one game, he would take a vacation equivalent to however long the development of the last game took. Then he retired after Secret of Mana and has been living off royalties ever since.

That's nothing. Notch made Minecraft and became a billionaire around the same age. The game was poorly programmed, wasn't even a complete game, and the main mechanic was stolen from Infiniminer.

This one Swedish dude on YouTube recorded himself overreacting to video games and pretending to be scared of Amnesia and now he's a millionaire.

One of the main people behind Half-Life retired afterwards as well, though I don't remember the name. I think it was the only game he had ever made.

What do people do when they retire with that much money that young? I'm not a fan of traveling so that wouldn't be something I'd do.

The Half Life guy was a short retirement though. Like six years. Like a David Letterman "retirement" though that was even shorter. "I beat life, bye." "s***. Life is long and I'm set for it, but this is boring."

whatever they want?

I mean honestly if I had that kind of money it really wouldn't change what I do day to day. Changing up their life dramatically is generally what happens to those lotto winners that win ridiculous amounts of money and then lose it all.

Just because you have a boatload of money doesn't mean you have to live in a mansion or drive overpriced cars.
