I just want to be able to afford a graphics card upgrade so I can play in 4k, but all these people want to contribute to global warming while hoping to get rich off their investment, convincing all their friends to try it too so they can validate their own reasoning, further driving up the price of graphics cards. Is PC gaming dying by becoming even more unaffordable?

But couldn't the argument be made that if you became a miner yourself, that you could then afford a new card?
It's a higher power telling me through bunnies that we're all gonna die!

I have a full time job, and theoretically I COULD afford a new card, but I'm not willing to pay $1000 for something that should cost $500. I imagine most people won't, assuming they care about value for their investment.

Also these cards were the first truly viable 4k single card solution, and if you’re saying $500 which is the 1080, that is NOT a viable 4k single card solution. The next generation we will start to see some cards that actually have lasting power in 4k. Wait to see what the market is like when they hit

I might just preorder a graphics card for the first time so I don't have to deal with the price increase after launch. I see that Nvidia volta cards are likely releasing early this year.
I exaggerated the price, the 1080ti is supposed to be $700 (at launch). I assumed a year later it would be a little cheaper, but instead it's twice the cost. https://www.tweaktown.com/news/60563/gtx-1080-ti-now-costs-up-1600-rx-vega-64-2100/index.html

It’s pretty f***ing ridiculous no doubt. Hopefully this mess will die down by the end of summer.

I'm in the same boat. I could pay for a $1,000 gpu in full right now but no way I will.

It's not a question of money but rather not conforming to insane price increases.

I don't see the big issue, why aren't people complaining about sound systems?! I've just purchased a decent system which costs more than a 1080Ti and that doesn't include an amp...
