Hey, sorry if I wasn't very clear (and, I admit, it was entirely my fault).

I meant games that were reproduced/relaunched based on the original game without the new game being a sequel, spin off, or just a part of a franchise.

So, taking DOOM as an example, I would consider Ultimate DOOM or DOOM3 to be a "remake", but I wouldn't consider DOOM2 to be a remake.

I thought DOOM was the one for PC, as it seemed to have quite a few iterations (as far as I know).

Also, I didn't really think about it, but I suppose BrokenMachine85 is right in that one of the sport game series probably has the most "remade" game.

Not to be rude but it still doesn't really make sense. If Doom 3 is a remake then so is Doom 2. They're both. This gives me a headache. I would say Half Life 1 + Opposing Force + Blue Shift because it's 3 games in the same engine with almost all of the same assets and the same story from different perspectives. There's probably a Japanese game that has been recycled more heavily, I'm sure I know of one but it's yet to come to mind. I want to say Tales of but they tweak the engine even when recycled and it isn't a PCcentric property. There are also games that use the same engine but everything else about the games are different. It's too broad of a question to really answer.

Wait, I thought DOOM2 was a sequel to DOOM that took place after the first game.

As for Tales games... I always thought of that series as being a franchise (although, apparently, some games are connected to each other).

The point was your definition is still so conflicted there's no way anyone can answer whatever it is you're trying to ask. Doom 2 is an upgraded engine. It does things differently from Doom 1. Now franchises don't count. But Doom is a franchise. What is this topic.

Doom 3 is a reboot, not a remake.

According to pcgamingwiki, Sonic Adventure came to PC 3 times.

I'd call it a reboot as well. The only way I could enjoy it though was coop. But that was easily cheesed (you had infinite lives as long as one player was still alive before the other one respawned) so a poor attempt at a horror game became an unintentional lowbrow comedy FPS.

The DOOM and Quake engines have been remade a lot, but the base game data is the same.
Even I'm not crazy enough to believe that distortion of reality

The DOOM and Quake engines have been remade a lot,

If you're talking about stuff like GZDoom, those aren't really remade. Those source ports are still based on the same source code as the original DOS games. Remade engine would imply that the engine is re-created from scratch, using the original game as a reference point at best.

That said, the TC isn't being clear at all about what "remake" is supposed to mean in this topic. I don't think it was thought all the way through.
