1600p is a nice bump to the res but i am waiting for 4K and GPU's good enough to run it.

I'll stick with my Rift awhile longer.

It'll be a while. The Pimax 8k X is probably going to require two Displayport cables and SLI-Titans or 1080Ti's to even have a chance of running it. Of course that's 4K per eye.

They just finished up their kickstarter last November and now they're taking the 8K to CES and we'll see how it does there. If all goes well they'll finalize the design and set it into production, and then maybe by the end of 2018 it'll be up for retail purchase.

I'm most excited about the 200° FOV though. High resolution will be nice but I'm kinda tired of feeling like I'm looking through binoculars for everything. Having some peripheral vision will be a big immersion booster.

Its about that time for a v2

This isn't V2... it's more V1.5 unless it also includes the knuckles controllers and the newest lighthouses. If it does, then it's closer to 2.0, but it's disappointing that they're sticking with the "110° FOV".

Ok, so according to this guy, it IS using 2.0 tracking. Also interesting that they added a 2nd camera on front....maybe they'll allow you to take 3D/VR pictures.

I thought they were just upscaling the input to 8k to get rid of the screen door effect. +1 on the expanded fov as well.
I can be patient, but I'm not waiting!

On the plain 8K model, yeah... but they are supposed to be making the "8k X" which will actually be 4k resolution per eye.

I missed that part. Hell I thought the 8k upscaling was a fantastic idea but that would work too. But man the power for that though.... we’d need a real GPU power jump.

Yeah I think it's a bit overly ambitious to try for 4K per eye, but I guess the people who buy that will be "future proof" for a while. From what I've heard there really isn't much difference between Pimax's 8K and 5K versions... the biggest difference would be in the Screen door effect (as the 5K isn't upscaling and using 2,560 x 1,440 per eye).
