From what MS is saying recently Meltdown can be patched on the OS level without the need for a BIOS update. Spectre is another mater. Supposedly a firmware update is needed to protect against Spectre variant 2. For the other exploits so long as you have the software patches and your browsers are up to date and patched against it you should be safe enough. Currently I know Firefox and Edge are patched and Chrome has a patch in the works for later this month.

I won't download it, don't want the performance loss.

No performance lost on my end.

Well, my motherboard (Asus Prime Z270-A) has gotten a BIOS Update now. Already downloaded the package installer or whatever for the Windows Updates.

Side Note: Didn't know AMD had SSDs?

Still waiting on Avast and MalwareBytes though. (MalwareBytes needs to update as well wouldn't it? Not Anti-Virus but I assume it's in the same field. syscalls and what not. I'd rather avoid the forementioned BSOD's...)

So I wonder if any hacker/cracker groups are going to try to use this exploit to crack games with tough DRM... like maybe you could find a way to use it to get the "password" that's needed for Blu-ray movies to be played or whatever.

Even if nobody's actual computer gets hacked, I would think an exploit like this could still be a gold mine for people who do pirate type s***....

(and the blu-ray thing isn't meant as an example of "tough DRM"... just something that could maybe be done)
