It’s technology, all technology prices fall over time.

I already dread for my 2018 PC, 64GB of RAM is going to surpass my GPU budget why a fair margin. It also doesn't help that SSD tech has been stagnated for the last two years.

You can blame smartphones for the price increase. This is actually a pretty good summary:

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/6xth78/is_ram_just_gonna_keep_on_getting_more_expensive/dmj4d5g/

TL:DR: DRAM manufacturers have switched a large portion of their capacity over to producing LPDDR for smartphones but demand is still killing supply. All the manufacturers are scrambling to bring more production capacity online in 2018.

Another thing to note though: once they get more capacity to help meet demand it won't mean an instant drop in price. It takes a while for production changes to start affecting consumers. So expect RAM prices to remain high well into 2018.

Ya I considered getting some ...less...then...legal means of obtaining RAM.

But I found my 16gbs 4x 4gb sticks for under $200.

Glad I do not need anymore cause so eod take that five finger discount in a heartbeat lol.

Why do you need that much RAM? You plan on running like 12 VM's at once?

Rendering, VM, RAM disks, actually having the capacity to keep Chrome open while playing a game / using RAM intensive programs.
