Or will I have to do a fresh install? I got Win10 from the free upgrade from Win 8.

Can you? Maybe. Is it recommended? No. Can cause more issues than it's worth.

Win10 is very resilient. I just swapped my i5-6500/H170A combo for a i7-7700k/Z270 combo and after some updating during the initial boot up and installing a few drivers for the new hardware all was right back to normal. I didn't even need to reactive Windows. I did make a separate user account using an MS account and make sure the Win10 license was linked to that just in case. Evidently you can run the activation troubleshooter from an MS linked account and the large majority of the time it will reactivate itself without needing to call MS. I didn't even have to take that step. Apparently the PC I built with the old hardware is also still activated with the same digital license. Two for one special.

You might as well try it. Worst case scenario is you have to reinstall anyway.
With deeper knowledge and experience, everything becomes more shallow.

I don't have my Win8 CD anymore so if I do a fresh install, how would I?
