Man the egocentrism in this topic hurts my head. "I don't use many things at once so no one should!"

Then there is the comment that Windows shuts down faster if programs are closed. I can almost guarantee it shuts down a dozen or more Windows faster than a human would.

You'd be wrong. Especially if we're talking about something like Steam that causes a delay

Steam takes a while to shut down manually to. Watch your task manager next time you shut it off and watch how long it takes to clear the process from the list. Steam seems to send some sort of closing message and wait for it. So the more delayed your internet, the longer it takes.

Gave it a shot. Took roughly 3 seconds for the process to disappear.

Windows should take about the same amount of time.

Oh, this is one of the advantages of hibernate mode. But I'm guessing hibernate is still going to be superior than this, since this is just re-opening apps you had open. But Hibernate doesn't close and re-open, it resumes your work.

Yet it does not. The delay on shutdown is noticeably longer if windows kills the process vs manually closing

On one hand, I can see that feature being useful (to me at least).

On the other hand, as with any new similar things, an option to turn it off would be nice. Customization is good, you know.

On a side note, I wonder if how many people would end up starting their computer to find porn open because someone forgot to close it before shutting down the PC.
I used to have a good signature, then I got modded for it.
Now I shall try to think of something edgier to put here.

I wouldn't know.
On the rare occasion i see that shutdown message, it's gone quick, and it's usually complaining about one of the dozens of programs i have open. I often shut my computer down in the middle of games and movies. I just walk by, press the power button, and go to bed, not really caring what's on screen. Done so since windows 95, briefly stopped in 98se since it was incapable of shutting down without freezing, i would just flip the power bar instead.
