I have a problem of all you tech savvy people. I recently bought a new tv and tried using it as a monitor for my computer. The problem is, I don’t know what I need to hook it up. I have a VGA cable but my tv doesnt have a VGA port.

Here are all of the ports my tv has:

- 4 HDMI ports
- 5 component cable ports
- Ethernet
- USB

Does anyone know what kind of cable I need to hook my computer to my tv?

Since your PC has VGA, I assume you would need to get a VGA to HDMI cable.

Huh. That’s weird... I tried an HDMI cable but it wouldn’t fit. I guess I could try a different HDMI cable.

Does your GPU have HDMI out? (Most GPUs made in the last 5 years or so have at *least* one.) If so, yeah... HDMI is fast and easy.

If your computer is old enough it actually uses VGA, I'm not so confident. VGA is seriously old and outdated, and hasn't really been a thing for like a decade now.

Knowing what ports your TV has is only half the picture. What ports do you have on your GPU?

I honestly don’t know what ports my GPU has. How can I tell?

Look at the back? >_>

For reference, these are the most common ports you might find:

HDMI:

DisplayPort:

Note the difference in shape between DisplayPort and HDMI so you don't confuse the two.

Are you sure you are using the correct size HDMI cable?

A GPU I had years ago only had micro HDMI out so I needed an adapter to connect it to my TV
