This isn't a fantasy. EA tried before and Gabe told them no, but everybody has a price. When Gabe dies one day and someone else takes the reigns they could say yes to EA. If that happens what will you do? Suck it up? Not play modern games anymore? Love it? Like it? Hate it? Curse it?

I, myself, would probably find..other means or play my backlog and go old school. I'm a retro enthusiast and somewhat of a collector anyway, so I'd have enough to pass the time when it comes to video games. And I could probably play those games via..other means...;)

Thoughts? It will definitely be a HUGE change for the entire industry and a very depressing one at that.

Not support StEAm

I don't use GoG or care about it so that wouldn't impact me in any way

I would hope another popular platforms where people put their games on pops up that isn't controlled by EA. Anything available only through something owned by EA would never get a penny from me.

Would also be annoying to have to pirate everything I owned just to not support EA by not using Steam.

You have presented the only scenario where the Windows Store has a chance.

To be precise, Gabe said he'd sooner let the company "disintegrate" than sell it to them.

I imagine that meeting went something like this;
EA Rep: We'll buy Valve for $1 billion.
Valve Rep: I have a counter-offer; we'll buy EA for $1 billion.
EA Rep: You don't get it, we're better than you.
Valve Rep: I see. If that's what you think, then the door is right over there.
