Just as a note TC, Steam has always had some sort of Halloween sale before Halloween, so it might be worth waiting before buying anything.

Anyway, Five Nights at Freddy's.

Just kidding, Prey and Dying Light. Hellblade might fit the criteria, and perhaps RE7 too. You could also look into Amnesia, Penumbra, and Soma.

Amnesia is a classic, though I liked the Penumbra series. Their best game is SOMA but it's more of an essay in some really dark, depressing moral/philosophical problems. *bonus option, machine for pigs is good too but not by Frictional. I actually liked the story better than vanilla.

Condemned is on steam. Old but good, I liked them better than the Outlast games. Similar atmospheres and enemy design.

Darkwood is an indie game, but it's phenomenal. Top-down survival horror without a single jumpscare, instead overwhelmed by immersion and an oppressive atmosphere.

Vanishing of Ethan Carter -- AAA graphics and environments lend itself well to this excellent walking sim.

Fun niche ideas:

Dead End Road -- Surprisingly creepy. Ps1 graphics driving simulator with lovecraftian horror.

The Last Door -- This series is a Poe/Lovecraft PnC adventure game that is insanely spooky and well written.

Lone Survivor -- Silent Hill homage that is janky but worth the investment. Sidescrolling survival/horror/adventure.

Reveal the Deep -- Potentially the best adaptation of "Lovecraft" on Steam, this indie game is unlike any other quality wise.

Monstrum -- Light on content but great for jumpscares or playing with headphones at night. 3D first person, escape a ship with one of three randomly chosen super-creepy monsters hunting you.
Since only from below can one better see the heights.
