I use a wired 360 controller as it's plug and play with any modern game. Also have a Steam controller I use occasionally.

Though I do design-wise prefer Sony's controller.

I vastly prefer the Xbox one design. But I never use either now that I have a steam controller.

Do you own any recent consoles? If you do there's probably a way to make the controller work on PC.

here's a suggestion not many consider but is pretty much perfect for my admittedly arbitrary situation which focuses more on functionality than usability(or is it the other way around): DS3

i frequently put up multiplayer games on my 55" 4k TV so wireless freedom is a must. that automatically eliminates the DS4 since one controller by itself hogs a full device whether it's the official or 3rd party BT dongle so f that.

also, the battery life is horrendous when you can go through a full charge in a dedicated session.

the 360 controller needs its own proprietary device which is also a no go(not to mention the d-pad is horrible).
xbone controller supposedly alleviates this with native BT support in new models but then there's the issue with normal batteries. having gone through the hassle of switching out batteries and charge packs on 360 controllers, i'm forever done with those antiquated methods and extra expenses.

my current DS3 has lasted for like... 5-6+ years now and only requires a USB cable so yeah, i'm not worried about battery life in the slightest.

the only real issue with DS3 is the initial setup when installing SCP and getting it to work with a supported BT dongle but after that i'm in simplicity heaven where i can boot up a MP game on TV and be ready for up to 4 players(usually 2) in a matter of seconds after having paired all the controllers of course.

that beats whatever comfort and control of better designed controllers for me by far.
