I have an ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming MB.

The fans I will be using will be 120MM fans (maybe a 140MM fan also).

I only have 3 CHA fan headers (along with 2 CPU fan headers).

So my questions are...

1) Is it ok to use a fan splitter (1 into 2 connectors) to hook up two fans to one 4 Pin PWM header? Or will this risk burning out the header?

2) I think I have 1 CPU fan header I can use. Can I hook up a case fan to this?

3) Should I just get a fan controller unit? And If I do get one, will it work with a modular type power supply? (Im assuming I will need some type of adapter).

Thanks!
.

Most PWM headers supply 1 amp, which is more than enough for two average fans.

CPU fan header should be used by the CPU cooler fan, it's speed is directly tied to the temps/load of your CPU.

Most fans run on .1 or .2 amperes so you will be fine.

Ok thanks, I found an adapter to hook up fans to my PSU.

I... I just told you you didn't need to do that though :(

on amazon i see a Phanteks PWM fan hub

that says you can connect 11 fans to the hub, and then connect the hub to a single 4 pin case fan header

is that real and safe? that one single 4 pin case header will power 11 fans?

The fans are powered through the psu and controlled by pwm.

No, for that many fans it needs an external power source aside from the PWM.

Oops, yeah I know. I had sorta asked about this but then removed it out of my question then forgot.

But yeah thanks for your reply. I will just hook up two to one (via a 4 pin PWM Y adapter) and be gtg. :)
