  3. Jazz Jackrabbit 2 issue...

So I decided to re-install this platforming gem a little while ago, but I have been unable to get rid of this persistent microstutter in the game. It's certainly playable, but seeing the background stutter as you move is very distracting. Things I've tried:

1.) Updating to the "Jazz2+" community-made patch.

2.) Running in various compatibility modes/disabling desktop composition.

3.) Forcing vsync on/off in the Nvidia control panel

4.) Running in the 256 color mode in game.

The stutter occurs both in software/hardware video mode in the game. Running this on Windows 7 Pro with the latest Windows updates and GPU driver installed. I have had no such issues in any other games. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The game claims I'm getting a solid 70 fps via the in-game stats display (F9), but the scrolling is very stuttery.

Haha, I think by the time Jazz Jackrabbit 2 was released (1998) I had moved on to a Microsoft Sidewinder gamepad, but I still have fond memories of the Gravis Gamepad - perhaps you were thinking of the first Jazz Jackrabbit for DOS? (they heavily promoted the Gravis in that game, that's for sure). Both great games.

Yeah, I only ever played the first one actually. I distinctly remember the Gravis Gamepad being mentioned at every opportunity.

Are you trying to run it directly through Windows?
I don't even attempt trying to run pre-2000 games without D-fend Reloaded, they're almost guaranteed not to work properly without it.

Yes, it says for DOS games but it's also extremely handy for Win95/98 games too.

Yep, I don't seem to recall having this problem with past XP/Vista machines. The problem with emulating it through DosBox is that you a.) Need a spare copy/image of Windows 95 laying around b.) have to have a machine that can pump up enough cycles to emulate at the speed of say a Pentium 133/166. The only games I absolutely have not been able to get to run in Windows 7 have been the odd game that uses a 16-bit installer/executable as I'm using a 64-bit version of 7, and you can't run 16-bit software on 64 bit windows. That is not to say they all run flawlessly, but minor glitches aside, most older windows games run just fine.
