  3. PSA: Sites like G2A.com, cdkeys.com etc are GREY MARKET sites

What does this mean?

These sites are Grey Market sites. They are not strictly legal, but aren't always illegal either. They are in a legal grey area and are shady. You run the risk of having your keys revoked if you purchase from them.

What are the risks?

You can have your key revoked, and in some cases you could have your Steam account banned by Valve if you are buying foreign keys and changing your location to a country where the keys are cheaper.

How high is the risk?

Not high. People buy from them all the time and never have a problem, but the risk IS STILL THERE. You can opt in to pay for buyer protection that will give you a refund if your key gets revoked, but there have been issues in the past where the sites do not back their buyer protection policy.

Which sites are the main Grey Market sites?

There are quite a few and they come and go. The main ones I know about are G2A.com, cdkeys.com, and kinguin.net

Where do these keys come from?

These keys are Grey Market keys. They "fall off a truck" so to speak. These keys are bought from regions where games are far cheaper and sold elsewhere. Some of the keys are also bought using stolen credit cards.

Should I trust them?

No, you shouldn't anything online fully, that's just common sense. But as to whether you should buy games from them, that's a personal call. Most people never have a problem, but developers do sometimes revoke peoples keys from those type of sites. Use your best judgement and always be careful when buying anything online. And as always with everything, if a deal is too good to be true then it probably isn't.

I'm tired of seeing so many topics a day about these sites, please keep this topic bumped or request it to be stickied. Tell me if I missed anything

. . .what? The point of the topic is to cut out the clutter we get spammed with over these sites

Edit: Also you can only highlight a single part of a post before you click quote so you don't make people have to scroll through walls of huge posts that are just quote blocks that could be a single line

Requested for sticky. I would add as many sites as you can in the OP that are known grey market key sites.

So you made a topic about something that clutters the site while in fact cluttering the site simultaneously.

I could bold but I'm on my mobile. Not really wanting to edit anything nor would I anyways.

I'm not complaining but we all see it consistently. I don't think this really helps since they're always in the top threads anyways like the mods situation on steam.

I'll edit them in if you can think of the others. I know there are 4 or 5 that get asked about pretty frequently but can't think of them

Can you screenshot some profile or proof that people have been banned after they bought keys from one of those sites?
If not, then you're just misinforming people.

That's just Far Cry 4, it's happened with other games too, but one should be enough to get the point across that there is a serious risk if the developer wants to fight a legal battle

Edit: Here is a non Ubisoft one
