I've never used WMP really, always been a VLC guy.
Played a few midi files on it, that's it, however come to use it, setting up media streaming to 360 and my library is full of videos and pictures that just don't exist anymore, like, 600 items. I presss delete, it says working, nothing changes.

Now I've organised my library to only look in one folder, movies, but its still showing all this old crap. And I know it was never in movies folder, it was all in my folder called porn, because it was informative cooking videos ¬_¬.

How the crap do I clean it up?
ARGH! Someone gave me some goggles and a spork,
I don't know what the goggles do but I'm gouging my eyes out with the spork!

Don't use the Library function of WMP it's trash. If you want to organize your media, use something that isn't garbage like Plex

Basically in that image, when i click videos on the left panel, it brings up all these old deleted files, how do I clean up that central pane?

library database files for wmp are located in:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player

just delete all the wmdb files to have WMP rebuild your library

Ok that worked a treat, thanks.
Problem However, 1 minute after opening WMP, it rescanned ALL of my media again, without asking, wtf?

How Do I Stop this, I have Tens of thousands of pictures and hundreds of videos in my dropbox that my family all share, I don't want them in Windows f***ing media player. Why the f*** is it adding all this s***? I couldn't give a f*** for it. I know where my stuff is and where I want it to be, why is it trying to collate it all like Unicron sucking up worlds?

that's why it's awful. it's designed to scan for all media automatically. try changing permissions on the database file so System (or whatever service is associated with wmp) can't write to it. i'm pretty sure that's what i did when i first noticed this behavior in the windows 7 beta back in 2009

Windows Media Player automatically scans My Music, Pictures, and Videos folders and adds files to the library. You can tell it to ignore certain folders when adding to the library. There's a section in the link below about removing a folder from being monitored by the library.

That program is a f***ing nightmare. Who thought that would be a good idea for it just to add everything?
Awful. Thanks for the help chaps.

I got to here eventually.
