Copy and pasted from Zorc_N_Pals topic:

OK, so what is Super Mario Core?
Super Mario Core is a new 3-D Mario platformer idea that is set after the events of Galaxy (Like THAT matters in the Marioverse...). The idea of the game is that Bowser has decided to abduct Peach again and try to conquer the world. But this time, he's going scientific: He's devised a plan that'll let him take the planet ITSELF hostage...!

What kind of plan?
Well, as Bowser has shown us time and time before, the Koopa king has the amazing ability to pull entire physics-defying castles out of his Koopa butt, including but not limited to eight fortresses full of lava, seven flying warships armed to the teeth with cannons and flame jets, a flying clown fortress capable of lifting an entire castle into the sky, a customized Koopa war cruiser, and an entire armada of propeller-powered pirate vessels capable of flying through the vacuum of space. And this game is no exception to that notion: Bowser has gone out of his way to construct a heat-resistant fortress AT THE CENTER OF THE PLANET. Within this fortress, Bowser holds a weapon dubbed the Koopa Kwake Kannon: a high-tech machine capable of triggering earthquakes anywhere on the planet at any time.

Bowser kidnaps Peach once again and takes her to his fortress, where he proceeds to make a worldwide broadcast that he has taken over the planet and made Peach his queen. In his broadcast, he warns Mario not to try and rescue her, or he'll trigger a massive earthquake that will rip apart the planet.

Sounds bad. How's Mario gonna save her if he can't chase after her?
Bowser's radar has a design flaw: It can only reach so far out of his castle. At the surface of the planet, Mario is invisible to Bowser, and thus if he can find a way to get around the radar, he can sneak underground undetected.

So, Mario's gonna go Solid Snake on Bowser? How's he gonna do that?
This is a bit of a grey area. In this game, the objective is not to collect Stars or Shine Sprites, but rather a series of earthen stones known as 'Star Stones': artifacts created by an ancient civilization of what could best be described as Native American Toads.

And one of these Indian Toads is the Rosalina/FLUDD of this game, right?
Yes. Shortly into the game, Mario encounters the 'Toad chief,' named Monteshrooma. Monteshrooma tells Mario of a myth of his tribe: That one day, their mother planet would be infected by an evil creature and threaten the lives of all who lived on her. As a means of appeasing the planet and surpressing any evil that may arise, the native Toads carved from the most beautiful stones of the Earth an unknown number of Star Stones. These Star Stones contain the positive energies of the planet and its assorted elements: Fire, Water, Wind, Metal, Wood, Shadow, and Light.

Whoa, whoa, wait. Now there's ELEMENTS in this?
In a sense. The Star Stones are manifestations of the planet's natural energies. Don't worry, though - it isn't complex. The Stones' elements are merely reflective of their locations. For instance, Star Stones of Fire may be found in volcanic levels, whereas Star Stones of Metal may be in a high-tech mechanical area.

Uh... OK. So how many of these Star Stones of whatever are there?
There are a total of 148 Star Stones in the game: 20 each of Fire, Water, Wind, Wood, Metal, Shadow, and Light, and 8 Super Stones. These Super Stones are unlocked after finding all 20 of a specific Stone type; the 20 Stones then combine and create a pure elemental level to challenge Mario, to test his worth. If Mario can complete the level and beat the boss, then the element is unlocked and new power-ups become available for Mario.

Once the 140 Star Stones are gathered and the 7 Super Stones are created, they will merge in turn to form the Planet Stone: The key to destroying Bowser's Koopa Kwake Kannon and beating him for good.

Power-ups?
Yes. Power-ups old and new appear in Super Mario Core. Unlike in Galaxy, they are not timed, and vanish only after contact with an enemy. The power-ups are as follows:

FIRE: Fire Flower. Turns Mario into Fire Mario and gives him the ability to throw fireballs.
WATER: Frog Suit. Turns Mario into Frog Mario and lets him swim faster and hold his breath longer.
WIND: Cape Feather. Turns Mario into Caped Mario and allows him to run and fly for long distances.
WOOD: Thorn Belt. Turns Mario into Thorn Mario and allows him to cling to and walk up walls and ceilings
METAL: Metal Cap. Turns Mario into Metal Mario and allows him to withstand fire, enemies, and poisons without being hurt. Also allows him to sink in water.
SHADOW: Boo Mushroom. Turns Mario into Boo Mario and allows him to float and pass through walls.
LIGHT: Starman. Turns Mario into Invincible Mario and allows him to destroy any enemy or obstacle he touches.

OK, cool. But Bowser CAN'T just be clueless the whole game... What enemies are there?
The enemies and bosses I haven't outlined in detail yet, but the traditional Koopa Troop enemies will appear in the second half of the game.

By the time Mario has obtained 6 Super Stones, Bowser will finally become aware of Mario's presence and begin to set off earthquakes. At this point, the game becomes a race against time to collect the last Star Stones (Every Star from that point on will be timed.), create the final Super Stone, and form the Planet Stone. Take too long, and it's Game Over.

Why does it take Bowser so long to catch on?
Because Bowser's an idiot. :P
Seriously, though, Mario 64 had Caps. Sunshine had FLUDD. And Galaxy had Spinning. Each Mario game has introduced a new gimmick, and this one will be no different.

Before Mario sets off on his journey, Monteshrooma gives him an ability that will allow him to bypass Bowser's radar. NOTE FROM TC: This ability is a pair of "Mole Mitts" that allow Mario to go digging and punch

Alright, sounds like a cool game. So, what's the deal with this Planet Stone thing?
The Planet Stone is basically a miniature Mushroom World - it represents the planet's positive energy as opposed to its destructive power. Using its power on the Koopa Kwake Kannon will scramble its circuits and shut it down for good.

So we gotta get these Star Stones, beat Bowser, and destroy his machine?
Yes. Unlike past 3-D Mario titles, finishing this game is not possible unless you collect ALL the Star Stones.

Also, the ending is more climactic than in earlier titles: Bowser has learned from his past mistakes, and created a Plan B, which the player stumbles upon after destroying the Kannon: The Kannon doubles as a power vacuum of sorts, and after it is shut down, the defeated Bowser activates its final function, which funnels the Planet Stone's power and transfers it to Bowser, turning him into a fearsome new monster. Bigger, nastier, and more powerful than ever, this 'Super Bowser' easily overpowers Mario and brings down the castle around him, leaving Mario and Super Bowser in a hellish arena at the center of the planet. Here, Mario is prevented with an eighth and final power-up: the Golden Planet.

The... Golden Planet? ...Is that the best you could come up with?
-_- Eat me.

The Golden Planet turns Mario into Gold Mario. In this form, Mario's cap and shirt are golden-yellow, and his overalls and cape turn a shining white. Mario's size and health double, and he gains a move that can damage Super Bowser.

More than this, I haven't gone into detail on. Which is good, because this would make a great topic for discussion.

Alright, so now that all that crap is out of the way, what levels are in the game?
Underground lakes, volcanic lava pits, haunted cemeteries, dank sewer systems, mazes of mole tunnels, underground ruins, high-tech underground tunnels, abandoned mine shafts, gigantic twisted worlds of plant roots, sandy desert ruins, frigid mountains, yawing abysses, underground cities, and many other underground locales that are unlocked as more Star Stones and Super Stones are collected. Exact levels are not yet known, but being worked on.

Sounds pretty cool for an entirely underground game. So what's my reward for beating it all?
First, it isn't ENTIRELY underground - the hub is Monteshrooma's village, which is a wide open Indian reserve on the bank of a mountain river. It is wide open and full of stuff to explore, as well as a few Star Stones being hidden around here that aren't in the underground world.

The rewards for beating the game include an expanded ending and playability as Luigi. However, since Bowser's worldwide proclamation specifically said "Mario better not try and interfere," and did not mention Luigi at all, this can be taken to mean that Luigi is on his own separate quest, which changes the Star Stones' order a bit and even changes a few levels entirely.

If the entire game is beaten with Mario AND Luigi, a final feature will be unlocked that allows Mario AND Luigi to cooperate and go through a few 3-D levels similar in style to the co-op type of the M&L subseries. A total of fifteen unique, NEW levels will be introduced that use this feature (It can't apply to the whole game, sorry - we gotta draw the 'hardware limitation' line SOMEWHERE), but it will also be featured in a handful of in-game levels, including the final level with the battle with Bowser/Super Bowser.

Agreed. And as of right now, the official SMC topic will be ABOUT SMC.

That's it. Ideas, suggestions, links, anybody who wants to chip in, or analyze my works (my birthday is at the end of the month, in exactly 4 weeks; I'll get the program I need AND a scanner then. I don't want you guys to think I'm having you do all the thinking for me.)... That's this topic. Nothing else.

And YES, Amenea/anarchy/KKDT/whoever else is hiding behind that IP address, that includes you and ESPECIALLY you.

That is all.
