So I was practicing some combos with Akuma in the lab and I noticed something odd. Some combos do different damage each time. Here's an example:

https://youtu.be/UczqFMT_NF4

This combo is performed twice in that video. The first time it did 496, the second time 463. Any reason for the discrepancy?

Damage scaling comes into effect when the opponents life bar is lower ie. you do less damage when the life bar is lower. Wait until the training dummy fully recovers and you will get the same damage every time.
This space is here only so it looks like I have a sig so my post are more noticeable. My posts look naked without a sig.

I suspected that this was the case but needed someone to confirm. I first noticed this is MVC3 where a combo should normally kill but doesn't because it scales more the lower health bar goes.

Thanks for confirming.

I played KOF94 extensively and that used to be a huge turn off about that game for me. Never understood the reasoning behind that.

I know for sure CVS2 had it, James Chen's guide mentions it.

i just don't know - does it affect anything but supers? or is it literally only a 'hype' mechanic making your health look lower than it actually is?

b/c if it's just a %age scaling, that shouldn't affect the actual game at all aside from supers b/c they are limited to 50% scaling. wish i could remember what it's called, but if you do the same 3 combos in a different order, do they end up doing the same amount of damage regardless?
