I find it's easier to do it this way first, so I have everything done and I can just plug everything in using the editor.

It's difficult because have to do the distance jump tests and see what the limits are for the level.

If you know the jump limits, then this is a non issues. That information can be obtained rather easily.

I prefer making stuff up as I go. Also, with graph paper, I can't play around with stuff to see how it works and if it would be a good fit.

No i haven´t but i am sure it´s better than designing one screen at the time. Then you have a nice overview and can plan the whole stage

Nah. I'm not gonna do that. It was quite fun drawing it all out before taking my plans to the game.
