I can't speak for Wigs, but I wouldn't want to trade Dom Smith for Hader. It's true that with Alonso there Smith won't get as much playing time. But he had some incredible value as a pinch hitter and that does matter. And the Mets got very lucky with injuries in the 2019 season. Having him return for depth would be very nice as well. I do think he's a good trade piece still, but it should be for the right deal. I'm not sure if Hader qualifies. The Mets should probably focus on building a bullpen of solid relievers instead of making another trade for one elite piece.

I'm probably overvaluing Smith a bunch though. And in that hypothetical trade, unless that prospect is very promising, the Mets wouldn't lose too much if Hader somehow ended up s***ting the bed.

Hader's big problem is the lack of a secondary pitch. He rarely throws his slider, so batters have started to learn that he's going to throwing high heat all the time. Until he can do something to keep people off balance, I think he's headed downhill. That's one of the reasons I'd like the Brewers to sell high on him, I think he's overrated and I don't trust him to mix things up.

There was a stretch last season where he was giving up home runs all over the place, and he s*** the bed in the play in game too (Trent Grisham's error gets the blame for that around here, but if Hader was pitching well that wouldn't have happened).

ran into one with the Mets suggesting Edwin Diaz

nope

trading Diaz right now would be one of the dumbest things they could do, since he's at such low value right now. that would also be the front office admitting defeat and their egos are way too big to ever do that anyway, so I have no idea what rumors youre reading, but this sounds more like someone's cooked up idea lol

also thats way way too much anyway. I ain't trading anything valuable for a reliever, period. Smith is one of the guys they are most likely to trade though for the reason you said yes, if teams see sufficient value in him, which I am not sure I would because he's such a valuable bench piece and those are important as you said. But if you can get a valuable enough piece for him, then do it.
Generally tho from a depth point of view, they really are not in a place to be trading anything away from the MLB team, but they kind of have to given their budget constraints EVEN THOUGH THEY JUST WINDFELL INTO 25M LAST YEAR AND ANOTHER 20M THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF THE CESPEDES RENEGOTIATED CONTRACT AND THEY AREN'T GOING TO REINVEST IT BECAUSE f***

also, I do value personality because this is the team I am rooting for and I want to like them, and I really would have a hard time with Hader on my team. And Dom is one of the more likeable guys on the team, I'm still dealing him where it makes sense but it makes me sad

yes, they need 1-2 "solid" pieces to build around, but they're mostly gone already, because this front office doesn't care about winning at all. It's not like these solid BP guys getting signed are ultra expensive or anything and like I said they JUST GAINED LIKE 25M IN "LUXURY TAX" CAP ROOM THAT THEY CONVENIENTLY WAITED TO ANNOUNCE UNTIL EVERYONE MEANINGFUL SIGNED and also any statement about the luxury tax being a determent is f***ing horses*** anyway since its only like a 20% penalty if you're < 10M over... and also the Mets salary as we already know is fudged to make it look better than it actually is- so the Wilpons can claim they are a top spending team when in reality they are bottom 3rd.

As the resident Delino Deshields truther I am not a huge fan of the Kluber trade

It shows that the Rangers are, for some reason (new stadium opening this season) pushing to win now when I really don't think they're even slightly equipped to do so

(That said, if you're a Rangers fan and do not believe in Deshields, I can see you thinking it's a good trade)

Mets reportedly have no interest in Betances as he wants a 1 year 10M deal. Which is really not much at all especially considering they just fell into $60M. How the f*** are these people allowed to own a team again?

The mets are going into 2020 with the worst bullpen era in franchise history (and only 5th worst in MLB in 2019 because juiced balls but...), without making a single MLB signing for the bullpen. While claiming you are trying to win. Like, the f***?

That's pretty f***ing pathetic of the Mets then. Will be even worse if he signs with the Phillies.

I'm surprised there's been nothing about the Yankees having any interest in signing him. Most fans want him back. And while the Yankees do have a strong bullpen, Betances makes them even better than 2019's bullpen since he never really got a chance to pitch. Assuming he's healthy for 2020 of course.
