Pearl Islands is great, but the thing that makes it not my #1 is just how unfair the Outcast Twist was. However, that's a bit different in that it was a pre-planned twist not designed to benefit a single person. The stellar cast did the rest.

Also, keep in mind that, despite me ranking BB13 3rd of 11 seasons, I still don’t LOVE it. I don’t LOVE BB17 either. Big Brother, as a format, is too chaotic, and it’s too long, and the live nature means that you might not get a proper conclusion to the storyline (see: BB15, BB17, BB20). Even the best Big Brother season probably ranks between DvG and EI for me.

Rachel may have won BB13, but she was in no way the producers’ pet

uh, so let me get your alternative facts straight here... by stating what you're disregarding:
Her hubby Brendon returned from a baloney "America's Vote"
The F6 Pandora's Box was obviously designed to help Rachel
The Veto comp after that Pandora's Box was pure endurance - something Veto NEVER is - that too blatantly resembled "No one comes between me and my banana!"
Shelli voting for Rachel to win is suspicious

She was definitely the producers' pet. They wanted both her and Jeff Schroeder to do well.

Also, something that’s probably not coming across properly:

I’m NOT a fan of producer rigging on Big Brother (Or Survivor, but we’re talking about Big Brother in regards to BB13). But the rigging in BB11 or BB13 doesn’t bother me like, say, BB19, because ultimately the rigging didn’t damage the overall season. Rachel may have won BB13, but she was in no way the producers’ pet, and all their more prominent pets got taken out by one of the most unlikely collections of newbies imaginable.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying about Ben in the hypothetical where the FMC doesn't exist. Personally I feel it's better when Ben idols his way to 4 and then loses to Hnstlers than Ben going out at 7 and seeing Lauren, Ashley and Dr. Mike get slowly picked off to get to the same result.

They wanted JORDEFF to do well. The F6 rig was far more for Jordan’s benefit than Rachel’s ‘Cause Lord knows Jordan couldn’t win a comp to save her life, and Rachel could against a field of Jordan, Adam, Shelly, Porsche and

I think that’s probably the discrepancy in how we view the season. You see it as “the producers wanted all the vets to win”. I look at it as “the Donatos were fan faves in BB8, Jordeff were fan faves in BB11, Brenchel are also veterans, who fought with fan favorite Britney”.

So I look at BB13’s rigging exclusively from the perspective that the producers desperately wanted Jordeff, and to a lesser extent the Donatos, to do well. And from THAT perspective, BB13 is a glorious train wreck. You lose Dick week one, due to his HIV, and then despite the veterans dominating, Daniele turns against them, sparking a house divide that leads to Brendon, Daniele, and Jeff all getting booted by a collection of mediocre (on paper. Seriously, not even the alpha males like Keith and Dominic were around) newbies. The F6 rig was a Hail Mary to protect Jordan, and even then, she STILL goes out at the final four. Sure, the final vote is questionable, but the season feels like enough of a slap in the face to the producers for rigging, that I’m okay with them only managing to give the win to their fifth or sixth choice at BEST.

Except you're wrong. IMO.

Ben had already become an insufferable jackass by 7, so we would have been spared two more episodes of that.

Lauren would have actually had to deal with the fallout of her game imploding at TC instead of being immediately idol'd out.

There's also that murkiness where Dominick pulled the same move in the very next season (without having seen Ben do it) with playing the HII before the voting and Jeff responded differently (personally I think he did it right with Dom - let him do it but keep the revelation of the "realness" of the idol until after the votes are cast).

Really the only thing we miss out on by Ben going out at 7 is Devon's ballsy move of saving himself by rogue voting Dr. Mike at 5.

I agree that I would have ZERO qualms with the season under this scenario. The FMC just retroactively emphasizes how s***ty it is that Ben needed to idol his way to the end.

Started listening to the RHAP podcasts with the S39 interviews. Why does everything have to be so LONG? Why can't there be short, five-minute videos of each contestant (and blogs? Why does everything need to be a podcast? Learning ANYTHING is so inconvenient nowadays, because you have to listen to it.)

The first podcast covered 5 of the twenty contestants, and was nearly 2 hours.
