50s were LIGHTYEARS ahead of today's nightmare.

Unless you were the 1 in 4 people living in poverty.

Or, ya know, black.

I also always love this idealized version of 40s and 50s America.

Never mind the fact that we had 22% of the US population living in poverty during those and now thats almost half that today. Or that consumerism drove those time periods post-WW2, with everyone wanting the best clothes, the newest gadgets, the biggest houses, etc.

The funny thing is that Cap was around in the ‘40s at least to know better

I don’t know how they’ve addressed his pre-serum origins in modern comics, but I love how it’s treated in the movie. Only one who’s experienced it can know the importance of what they’re fighting for
Thank you, Eddie Guerrero.

People long after something they can remember (or at least see in old films).

Here's the whole problem: people long after the propaganda version of the 50s, but that propaganda was a response to how bad the 50s actually were. Rock already said some of it, but in addition to the widespread economic anxiety and empty consumerism of the 50s, the average American was also fairly unhappy (yes, even if they were a white man!)
Congrats to BKSheikah, who knows more about years than anyone else.

I'm aware all of that was an "idealized" version of that period

Please. It's ridiculous to say that when today's empty consumerism is at least 30 times bigger.

The Kelly Longitudinal Study

Which is hard to actually get a copy of to look at (I've tried!), so I'd recommend Homeward Bound: American Families in the Cold War Era by Elaine Tyler May for a book that draws on the study as its biggest source.

In what era could you insult another man’s wife, after that guy already kicked your ass, and not get s*** on for it

Hitler is a literal nazi. Red Skull is a comic book nazi. What he says in the panel is what the author wrote. He does not actually say those things himself. Because he's a fictional character.

yeah but you get that the author putting the words in the mouth of a Nazi means he thinks the words are bad, right? That comic page is not an endorsement of the things Red Skull says.
