well, i thought this wasn't good. i agree that trying to tell this story with realistic-looking animals, who have these blank stares on their faces at all times, just didn't work.
plus almost all of the changes they made to the original sucked. why was be prepared only 10 seconds long? as doug walker said in his review, why the f*** was can you feel the love tonight in broad daylight?
you know what this reminded me of? the gus van sant psycho remake. it's a shot-by-shot remake of the original for the most part but because of some glaring flaws it didn't work nearly as well (psycho shouldn't be in color, vince vaughn isn't anthony perkins), and the changes they DID make were crap and made no sense.
i did enjoy myself watching it in the theater because seeing all the familiar scenes again brought me back to my childhood. but yeah, this wasn't a good remake.
I feel like the audience score is higher than usual because we all get the gist of the "live-action" remakes - you like them or you don't. If you're going to see it you probably already know you like it.
