Lambda discusses the possibility that they aren’t really dead. Merely pretending.
A: Just once, I would laugh my ass off if the were just putting on a murder party. (Arria then proceeds to literally describe the initial set-up of this episode). Like, just once I want them to be like “oh no, there was no murder. This is all fake blood! We’re rich, so we have servants to clean it up. Don’t worry!”

A: I wonder if Kyrie’s death was caused by fire or smoke inhalation or something like that. Part of her scene described ‘burning’ and Jessica’s fists were ‘on fire.’ We know people and objects can’t go between rooms in a closed room mystery, but I assume air can still get through, or else everyone dies of suffocation. So maybe they closed her in and set a fire and blew the smoke inside? As for Natsuhi, uh… maybe she choked on a walnut? I got nothing…

Battler refuses to say when the victims died.
Erika: So are you saying that Krauss and Rudolf and them killed you all?
A: No, that’s what he WANTS you to think.

Arria notes that when Rudolf, Krauss, and Hideyoshi stand in the order they’re standing in, they look like The Rowdyruff Boys, lol.

A: I like how Krauss tells them to keep hope alive, we all have someone to live for, etc. and then Erika is like “nah they’ll probably die before this is over.”

Day 43

We start with Rudolf saying “Kyrie, Battler…. damn it! I didn’t get a chance to tell you!”
A: Oh s***, he did switch those babies, didn’t he? Did his waifu know? I forgot her name…
K: Asumu? I doubt he told her.

Erika is trying to get Krauss to go stay with the cousins
A: Question: Since Erika is not the detective, can she be killed?
K: I’m not sure. Check the Knox rules. I would imagine killing the detective would be disallowed, but since she’s not a detective… I guess it would be the Game Master’s choice.
A: Yeah, that would be a ‘f*** you’ move from Battler.
We checked the Knox rules to see if anything firmly went against it. I was sorta waiting for Arria to check the rules about detectives to see how long it would take for her to remember the rule “the detective must not be the culprit.” Finally she saw it here and called it out.
A: Oooh, that would be a dark chess move. Erika killed Battler. That’s going to be my working hypothesis for now.

Game: When there’s a group of confused men, one composed member of the opposite sex can control them
A: Nicely written, Ryukishi. I will admit I’ve used this to my advantage. Also, it works in reverse. A group of confused women can also be controlled by one composed man.

Hideyoshi tries to convince Erika that the Ushiromiya family all love each other and would never kill one another.
A: Ehh, debatable! Do I believe your wife loves you? Yes. Do I believe Eva would murder everyone but you and George? Also yes.

Rudolf says that Kyrie would not hesitate to bite a finger off. Reminds me of when Battler had his finger bitten off to save him from being in that room. Arria took a moment to talk about a book series she liked where women in a court would occasionally try to kill their husbands, but it was beneficial because it ‘kept them on their toes.’

Hideyoshi talks about how Rosa and Maria could have been killed
A: Mmm, I think I like my idea with the poisoned tea.

Erika mentions there can be multiple culprits
A: Are they hitting us over the head with this clue bat? That there can be multiple culprits?
K: I thought you were about to ask about something else.
She rereads some of the last few lines, including how Rosa “would not be surprised by someone unknown to her.”
A: Is this the clue bat I missed? It was someone in the family?
K: I was thinking more of this episode in general. Disregard.

Erika, Rudolf, and Hideyoshi talk about devices or wires that could lock a chain from the outside.
A: Is this true, though? Wasn’t this already denied in red? Or wouldn’t this violate some Knox rule about convoluted devices?
K: You have a point.
A: Erika really is a manipulative b****, isn’t she? She’s just playing these men like fiddles.

Arria rechecked who had been murdered
A: Oh, it was all the mothers. Interesting.
K: Yeah, this is one way I remember who was killed this episode.

A: So Erika made the men suspicious of the servants. Is she now going to go to the servants and make them suspicious of the menfolk?

We go to Metaverse Battler and Beatrice.
Battler: I used to think the witch side had such an advantage. Now I see it’s like that game where you stick knives in a barrel and try not to stab the mustache guy inside.
A: Nanjo? Please don’t stab the walrus. He just wants the fish inside that barrel

Chick Beato says she must become one with her elder sister in order to please Battler.
A: I think she missed the point. Like, comically missed the point. And this coming from someone who only vaguely understands what’s going on.

Beato is afraid of dying when the game ends, but Battler says he understands magic and he can carry her onward
A: I wonder if this was some sort of contingency plan from Lambdadelta. Quick, turn Battler into a sorcerer in case Bernkastel traps her in a game forever!
K: I think a lot of this scene is also Ryukishi thinking about his friend who had died around this time.
A: Ah. I get it.

Chick-Beato mentions the time Battler said ‘small bombs’
A: I love how that became such a meta joke it came back around and actually made its way into the game. Also, it’s sorta like chick-Beatrice making fun of chick-Battler.

Chick Beato and Elder Beato talk. She has a line that means a lot to me now. “It might mean successful love is worth two destroyed loves.” Arria is just sitting there thinking and I can practically see the hamster spinning in her head, but I bet it’s something completely unrelated.

A: I was thinking that Beatrice shouldn’t be playing against them anyway. They’re playing a different game. A sort of give-and-take with Battler. I’m not actually sure how The Divine Comedy ends, but this seems like Dante went through hell, purgatory, and heaven, met Beatrice, and then he kicked her off the seat next to God and threw her down to hell.

A: I’m also wondering what in the f*** Zepar and Furfur are really supposed to be. Right now they’re just the world’s scariest matchmakers. “Scarier than the undertaker, we are meeting our matchmaker.”

Erika reports the result of her fight to Bern and Lambda.
Game: She was like a kid who went shopping, then only bought candy
A: I love that comparison, because she sounds like a kid right now.

Bern talks about how she wanted a total victory where she could humiliate Beatrice
A: Is this like the witch version of when people beat up on nerdy otaku?
K: Kinda. A lot of what she’s saying actually reminds me of how Beatrice is treated in Umineko threads on 4chan… Anonymous is Bernkastel… or vice-versa.

Battler pops in and interjects his opinion. Lambda says it’s not polite to eavesdrop, to which Battler says “look in a mirror.” Lambda then actually looks in a mirror
A: *snorts* Oh my f***. Sometimes Lambdadelta… sometimes you amuse me. I imagine her pulling a mirror out of thin air and being like ‘where, where is it?! What’s on my face?’
The game then spills out that’s precisely what happened
A: Oh my god, this is so great. The game even says she’s “pretending to be stupid in her own special way.” Yes, Lambdadelta, you are ‘special.’

Bern threatens to throw Erika in the deepest depths of oblivion, etc.
A: I want to watch a porno written by Ryukishi.

There’s a line about how Lambdadelta is the only one who can control Bern’s temper tantrums
A: Of course she’s the only one who can control her spouse.

Battler and Dlanor talk s*** about Erika.
A: I like the idea that while this conversation is happening, Erika and the witches are still here just listening in. It’s like two queens bickering, and then turning to the servant and asking “okay, what did these two tarts just talk about?”

Battler says that although he should hate Erika as a rival, he doesn’t need to hate her as a person
A: You probably should, though…

DUCT TAPE
So we had the scene where Battler gives Erika tape and… yeah… this is something I incorporate in my real life. Before Arria ever played Umineko, she handed me duct tape for some reason and I said that quote “I… Erika… have DUCT TAPE!” Arria remembered that moment, and how she looked at me like I was crazy. I also told her how recently I needed to fix my work badge, and I took a look around the lab, saw the tape, and was like “Yes, this is what an Erika would use! And I am an Erika!”

Back to Furfur and Zepar shenanigans. They do something silly and there’s a sound effect of the audience applauding.
A: Okay, I have one question. Who the hell is in the audience?
K: I think it’s meant to be us.

She looks at who has died and tries to think of what the motive of the killer in this game would be. With Krauss and Rudolf still alive, the inheritance doesn’t change much. She’s not sure if George would get any inheritance with Eva dead, and I’m not sure either. I just said it would “be a family conference for another day to discuss.” But in any case, George seems to care more about being with his waifu than money.

Cannot be THE culprit: Kinzo, Eva, Rosa, Maria, Genji, and Kumasawa. But also Genji and Kumasawa are only on this list because they have magical counterparts, not necessarily because I don’t consider them a culprit.

Umineko certainly gets strangely "we're all friends ^_^ yay <3" in the end, to the point where Battler considers both Erika and Bern friends... it's a bit weird but whatever

Oh, Dels! Welcome to my topic. <3 Glad you could make it. I got Ep 1-5 in the google docs if you're ever bored enough to peruse that.

Yeah, Battler's so weird to Bern. Like, they're "friends" but he'll happily punch the s*** out of her too.
