I've played every regular game in the series and even imported Zero. Now it's time to expand to these Samurai games. Since I've heard the stories are not connected which one of these should I buy first? I'm thinking Ishin, since it's on PS4, but I'm interested to hear everyone's thoughts.

Go for Ishin bro, just a fanatic just like you man, played all of them except, 5 and 2. I imported 0 and it was phenomenal. To answer your question, yes Ishin is the best bet not only because it's on ps4, it's interactive seeming cutscenes are brutal and visceral sword battles! The techniques and movement makes you feel like a badass samurai or a ronin. Amazing casts and yet another epic tale. Bout to play it in another hour or two. Currently playing Tales of Zestiria.
