According to the leaks (NO Spoilers) this game is looking like it will be the Sonic Forces of the franchise. Neither terrible nor rather great. Neither worthy of praise nor scorn. It'll simply just, exist. Except Forces was $40 for 4-5 hours and this will be $60 for 20-30 hours.
Die hard fans will love it, because there's no changing their minds and are just used to the quality of the products the companies give them.
Fans able to see through the smokescreen will see it for what it is: mediocre.
Casuals will look at the game with a "meh. What else it there?"
There's just too many similarities between them.
-Dev times of 4+ years not focusing on the right aspects. Sometimes scrapping things altogether causing them to redo many things from scratch. -teams lacking proper or as much quality experience as previous teams. -Previous entries being noticeably more up to par. -Lot's of hype built up behind them, only to not deliver on it. -Directors/Producers with questionable objectives and motives (Iizuka's "Dash like a maniac"/Nomura's convolutions)
No doubt more similarities will be apparent post-game release.
Only thing missing is a "smaller, amateur team that shows up the Bigger Guys with a product better than theirs"
And yes, I know people will say "it's not out yet. You can't say anything!". People were saying the exact same thing about Forces before it's release, and look what happened.
But it's not all hopeless. The only solution is to not encourage Square to keep making products like this. They'll learn, and eventually adapt and sink or swim. It's just how things work.
