  3. Any good reviews comparing to undisputed 3??

I thought undisputed 3 was amazing. I liked the striking in ea mma and loved that game too but not as much. I liked the depth of different positions and how you could implement so many styles and gameplans.

Any reviews out there going over game mmechanics? Any big undisputed 3 fans input is also appreciated.

I haven't seen what I would call a "good" review comparing the two. All I've seen are reviews that outright say EA UFC is the best MMA game ever or that Undisputed 3 is but without giving justifications. That said, here's my thoughts if you don't mind.

This game does some things well and is an OK first effort from a dev team new to MMA games but on the whole while I'm having fun, I'm not enjoying it as much as Undisputed 3 for the following fairly lengthy list of reasons/omissions. Note: My perspective is as a martial artist and as a MMA fan since the first Pancrase event in 1993 (slightly preceding UFC 1) as well as an avid player of all 3 Undisputed Games, The original UFC series starting with the Dreamcast title, EA MMA, Fire Pro Wrestling and Pride FC for PS2. I have played EA UFC for 10+ hours and have completed the tutorial, all of the challenges (most to Black Belt level) and am 18-0 in my career mode having just won the lightweight title before calling it quits for today. 15-16 wins by submission, the rest by "TKO".

My issues with EA UFC:

1) No fighter entrances unless the fight is a 5 round fight. I see no reason for omitting entrances for 3 round fights.
2) Inability to select the referee for exhibition matches.
3) Missing referees such as Herb Dean.
4) Inability to spectate the other fights on your cards during career mode.
5) Lack of leg kick TKO's.
6) Lack of doctor stoppages.
7) Lack of referee interaction during TKOs.
8) TKOs playing the same animations as KOs.
9) Inaccurate movesets.
10) Overuse of flashy moves such as cage kicks and capoeira kicks.
11) Lack of touching gloves.
12) Stance switching is really really slow.
13) Denying transitions on the ground is subject to the camera angle and it's not always entirely clear which direction is correct depending on the odd camera angle you get on occasion.
14) The suplex single leg takedown that everyone has that I've seen in MMA maybe 3 times in over 20 years following the sport.
15) Lack of a true sprawl to stuff takedowns. Sprawl position only achievable from ground transitions.
16) Binary nature of takedowns. It's either a completed takedown or you succeed and both return to standing. There is no struggle for the takedown which ties into issue number 15.
17) Referee standing fighters up who have achieved dominant positions. No competent ref does this in the sport without a very very good reason. Happens frequently in EA UFC despite the top fighter being active.
18) Lack of event mode to set up your own PPV cards and get the whole TV presentation.
19) Lack of Ultimate Fights mode.
20) Lack of Pride mode.
21) Sub standard create a fighter function. Preset body parts only, with no sliders of any kind. Inability to resize, rotate and/or move tattoos. Lack of logo design/create feature.
22) Lack of weight and body reaction to strikes unless a "health event" is triggered.
23) Lack of strike catching.
24) Minimal cage interaction, no wall walking or using the cage to reverse ground positions.
25) Lack of diversity of grappling animations compared to Undisputed 3. Animation quality is excellent, quantity could have used a bit more work.
26) Lack of diversity of striking animations. See point 25.
27) Less diverse commentary.
28) Lack of submission switching.
29) One button to stand up from dominant ground positions that take multiple steps to achieve. i.e. Double leg takedown to full guard, pass to half guard, pass to side control, pass to full mount...only one button needed to escape.
30) Odd omission of top 10 ranked fighters in multiple weight classes.

There are more but these are the 'major' ones

Alot of the things Shonuff331 has said I can completely agree. I kind of enjoyed undisputed 3 better despise its flaws.

UGH ground seems way worse....

Will technical kickboxing stop capoiera spammers?
Are there still move proficiency levels?

1) So far for me, it's not terribly consistent in allowing you to interrupt some of the flashier spinning strikes. Sometimes a simple push kick stops them, sometimes the push kick is beaten by the spin kick and you get kicked in the face for big damage. The physics system the game uses for strikes is a little "loose" if that makes sense resulting in a bunch of odd collision issues at times. On the flip side capoeira spam will deplete stamina pretty quick, especially if you parry them.

2) There aren't move proficiency levels in EA UFC. You have two offensive submission stats, joint submission and choke submission. Those stats control how well you do all subs in that category. There aren't anything like the level 1-3 subs from Undisputed 3. You're either good at all of them or not good at any of them. There are also abilities (basically slotted buffs) that can help your submissions but even those are all or nothing.

lol same, though i did have some doubts after watching some of the later gameplay videos. It kind of looked like Fight Night jury rigged to include kicks, etc.

I did buy a PS4 for this. Feeling some buyer's remorse at the moment.
I'll get PSN Plus again once Virtua Fighter 5 gets remastered with online play.

This was one of a few games I bought a PS4 to jump into immediately. The only other one that released so far (as all the others were delayed) is inFamous Second Son. I enjoyed that a lot so it's not a total wash but this game...it's fun, but it's a lot less of a MMA game than I thought. Some of the issues seem to come from rushing it to market and some of them seem to come from the people making the game not knowing much about MMA until they got the assignment to make this game. There are just so many details large and small that a MMA fan would know right away (some of which I listed above) that they either messed up or completely omitted. That's very disappointing.

Usually the good/great games build on its predecessors within the genre. This one starts from well behind the games that came before it. Hopefully part of the problem is the difficulty in developing for a next generation console because you don't know the actual specs and hardware until later in the development cycle. Guess I'll see when the next game comes out in a few years. Until then, I'll finish this game's career mode a time or two, play some friends in it but spend most of my MMA gaming time still playing Undisputed 3 for my MMA fix. It's just the far deeper game in MMA gameplay and features.
